Pioneer DV-444 Offers Progressive Scan-Quality DVD With A Slim, Stylish Look

11-Jul-01

Pioneer combines form with function in its newest progressive scan DVD player, the DV-444. This full-featured, single-play DVD-Video/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/VCD/MP3 player offers quality performance with a slim, stylish, silver exterior. ""As the home theatre system becomes the centerpiece for family activities, it's becoming more important to create products that are aesthetically appealing,"" said Matthew Dever, Vice President of Marketing and Product Planning for Pioneer Home Entertainment. ""Pioneer created a great looking exterior for a product that offers superior image and audio quality."" The DV-444 provides film-like quality images with the integration of digital progressive scan output. To accomplish this, the player processes the signal from the DVD disc, purely in the digital domain, to minimize signal loss. The DV-444 then outputs a signal with twice as much information as a conventional interlaced DVD player. This faster processing virtually eliminates all jagged edges and creates a very smooth, film-like picture. The DV-444 has the ability to play multiple music formats, including the widely popular MP3 format. The unit takes a technological leap forward with the MP3 format, providing cataloging and on-screen menu features to utilize the storage capacity of CD-R/RW discs. The menu allows for simple navigation and song selection with easy use of the remote. The device also automatically decodes MP3 encoded content. Providing superior sound as well, the DV-444 offers 192 kHz/24-bit Burr-Brown audio DACs. It combines a sophisticated noise shaping technology, excellent operating stability, wide dynamic range, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 105dB. Performance features of the DV-444 include: - Separate audio and video circuits - High-speed loading - High-speed resume - 10-bit video signal processing - Twin-Wave Laser Pickup for CD, CD-Video, CD-R, and CD-RW playback - DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ digital outputs - Component and S-Video output - Pioneer-exclusive Viterbi Error Correction - Personal modes for audio and video settings - Still play by field or by frame - Still step play forward and reverse - Program play (CD track, video/chapter, title) - Slow motion playback Convenience features of the DV-444 include: - 43-key remote control - Set-up navigator for easy, first time set-up - An advanced graphical user interface with non-stop operation and basic/expert modes - Program memory by chapter and title - Resume play function for DVD and CD-Video - Condition memory for DVD - Continue play memory for DVD and CD-Video Exterior of the DV-444: - Aluminum with a silver finish - Slim, stylish look - 16.4 (W) x 2.1 (H) x 10.5 (D) inches The DV-444 will be available in August at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $449.
