Pioneer Previews Third-Generation Plasma Display

11-Jul-01

Pioneer previewed its third-generation 50-inch plasma display at its mid-year product line show. The unit features new proprietary technologies that provide consumers with brighter, more vivid colors as well as increased brightness, contrast, resolution, and clarity. The plasma panel utilizes True Matrix Imaging with deep encased cell structure, to eliminate light leakage from other cells and therefore enhance the image quality. ""Pioneer's third-generation plasma panel represents the future of display technology for both consumer and business use,"" said Matthew Dever, Vice President, Marketing and Product Planning for Pioneer Home Entertainment. ""Whether you need a plasma because of space constraints or you simply want one for its outstanding picture quality, Pioneer's plasma offers a level of quality unrivaled in the industry."" The third generation plasma is a true native XGA display, compatible with SXGA and UXGA. The high resolution panel is equipped with 980,000 pixels (1280 x 768) and provides a 160-degree viewing angle. It offers four screen modes to handle various formats including 4:3, zoom, full-screen (16:9), and natural wide (expanded 16:9). The unit is less than four inches deep and weighs less than 100 pounds. The third-generation plasma is engineered to provide increased flexibility with an expansion slot technology that enables the addition or removal of various cards to help ìfuture-proofî the product. With digital technologies changing at an extremely rapid pace, Pioneer's slot technology allows the flexibility to update the plasma display as new convergence technologies become available.
