Polk Audio introduced the new RM6000 six-piece, five-channel home theatre speaker system, featuring matched satellites and a powered subwoofer. The RM6000 is an all-new model, bringing the RM Series of sub/sat systems up to five models, ranging in price from $549 for the new RM6000 through $1999 for the recently introduced RM7600.RM Series satellites fit in the palm of a hand, making them easy to place in any room without being visually intrusive. Their styling incorporates soft lines and a sculpted shape, reminiscent of smoothed stone. RM6000 satellite and center enclosures are low-resonance injection molded ABS. The system is available in either black or titanium finish. The front and surround satellites employ 3-inch (75 mm) midrange drivers and a 1/2-inch (12 mm) silk dome tweeter. The center speaker uses the same tweeter as the satellites and two midrange drivers for improved power handling and dynamic range. With perfectly matched timbre on all five channels, the 360-degree soundstage is seamless and enveloping. All satellites are magnetically shielded. The crossover features a small value Mylar bypass capacitor across the main (non-polar electrolytic) cap in the high-pass network to improve high frequency extension. RM6000 satellites (including center) feature integral keyhole slots for easy wall mounting and can accommodate optional fully articulating mounting brackets via a built-in threaded insert. An all-new powered subwoofer is essential to the high performance of the new RM6000 system. It boasts an 8-inch (20 cm) driver with a vented pole piece for improved power handling and reliability. A built-in 50-watt RMS amplifier powers the woofer. The enclosure is vented via a single port that is flared at both ends to minimize turbulence, port noise and distortion. The fully-featured subwoofer is magnetically shielded, allowing consumers greater placement flexibility. The RM6000 will be available in North America in August 2001.
