Image Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: DISK), a leading licensee and distributor of DVD programming in North America, today announced the September 4th BET on Jazz release of Kenny Rankin on DVD and videocassette as well as a compact disc, ""Haven't We Met,"" of the live concert. The best description of Kenny Rankin's pristine tenor voice came from the legendary Stan Getz, who referred to him as, ""a horn with a heart."" The New York Times said: ""Kenny Rankin's mature style combines American pop-jazz crooning with the intonation and softened percussive effects of Brazilian scat singing. The result is a fluid folk-jazz hybrid that maintains a base of pop formality."" As a teenager, Kenny Rankin was signed to Decca Records and released a handful of singles. Later, he began to make a name for himself as a songwriter and rhythm guitarist when artists like Peggy Lee, Carmen McCrae and Mel Torme recorded his compositions. Additionally, Bob Dylan had him play on ""Subterranean Homesick Blues"" and ""Maggie's Farm"" for the landmark, ""Bringing It All Back Home"" album. Kenny Rankin established himself as a performer who produces both original compositions and impeccable covers of other artist's songs. Paul McCartney was so impressed by Rankin's treatment of Beatles material (""Blackbird,"" ""While My Guitar Gently Weeps""), he asked Kenny to represent Lennon and McCartney when they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. Another long-time admirer, Johnny Carson, had Kenny appear as a guest on the Tonight Show 25 times. Image Entertainment will release Kenny Rankin's video concert as part of its BET on Jazz series. The DVD will include a video interview with Rankin and both DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. The CD, entitled ""Haven't We Met,"" features songs from Cole Porter, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Frankie Lymon, and George and Ira Gershwin. International video sales of the title will be handled through Image's joint venture partner, Aviva International, LLC. Image Entertainment, Inc. is a leading aggregator of content for DVD with nearly 1,500 Image-exclusive DVD titles in release.
