STARZ! Doubles Dolby Digital 5.1 Transmissions

STARZ! will double its number of DolbyÆ Digital 5.1 transmissions beginning Monday, August 27, when it adds the Dolby Digital 5.1 signal to its STARZ! West feed. The STARZ! East feed has featured Dolby Digital 5.1 since June 1999, and with both time zones now sending the signal, the number of monthly Dolby Digital 5.1 transmissions from STARZ! will effectively double.STARZ! was the first premium movie channel to offer Dolby Digital 5.1 to standard-definition premium movie channel viewers. With this announcement, STARZ! continues its leadership role in the digital audio realm. This October, for example, the combined STARZ! East and West feeds will offer 232 distinct transmissions of 24 different movie titles in Dolby Digital 5.1. Some of the October titles to be offered with Dolby Digital 5.1 are ""The Cell,"" ""Godzilla 2000,"" ""Mission To Mars,"" ""Nutty Professor II: The Klumps,"" ""Remember The Titans"" and ""U-571.""The Dolby Digital movies on the STARZ! East and West feeds will be available through DIRECTVÆ, DISH Networkô and on compatible cable systems with receivers or set-top boxes that have a Dolby Digital S/PDIF output option (subscribers are urged to check with their providers for more information). As it did when adding Dolby Digital to the STARZ! East feed in 1999, STARZ! will continue to broadcast movies in Dolby Surround on STARZ! West while adding the new Dolby 5.1 audio.Consumers will know when a movie is being transmitted on the STARZ! East or West in Dolby Digital 5.1 by the familiar Dolby ""trailers"" that are seen in Dolby-equipped movie theatres. Dolby will provide the trailers to Starz Encore Group for airing before each Dolby Digital 5.1 transmission on STARZ!
