Denon's new THXÆ Ultra-certified AVR-4802 A/V surround receiver incorporates the most advanced audio technologies to offer more features and performance than ever before in its category. Engineered for ultimate surround sound audio quality, the AVR-4802 is the world's first component to incorporate decoding for the recently announced DTSÆ 96/24 5.1 format for DVD-Video, as well as the first to utilize THX 6.1 post-processing for DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 -encoded program material, and THX post-processing for DolbyÆ Pro Logic II. Along with these state-of-the-art capabilities, the AVR-4802 includes seven channels of high power amplification, Dolby Digital and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 decoding, completely independent main and second-zone operation, 50 MHz bandwidth component video switching, and numerous additional advanced features, for greater flexibility than ever before in custom installations and multi-room systems. The Denon AVR-4802 is engineered to deliver the ultimate in surround sound performance and audio fidelity. Along with its standard-setting DTS 96/24 5.1 decoding capability, the AVR-4802 offers surround sound decoding of 6.1-channel formats including THX Surround EXô, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1, plus DTS Neo:6 Cinema and Neo:6 Music decoding. The receiver also offers 6.1 matrix decoding of Dolby Digital 6.1-encoded sources, unsurpassed 5.1 Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II decoding, along with a variety of useful DSP modes including Denon's exclusive Widescreen 7.1 mode, which delivers 7.1-channel reproduction from 5.1-channel and stereo sources. For heightened surround sound music listening enjoyment from stereo program material, the AVR-4802 includes Denon's 7-Channel Stereo and 5-Channel Stereo modes, in which all sets of left and right front and surround speakers reproduce full-fidelity, unprocessed stereo, and the center channel provides an left+right blend. This feature enables listeners to enjoy music reproduction from all the speakers in a multichannel home entertainment system, rather than from only the two left and right front speakers, but without the artificially created ambience of other soundfield simulation systems. The AVR-4802 utilizes state-of-the-art digital audio technologies for extraordinary resolution, clarity, dynamic range and channel separation, such as 24-bit/96 kHz D/A converters, leading edge Analog DevicesÆ SHARC dual 32-bit floating point DSP chips, plus Denon's proprietary DDSC-D (Dynamic Discrete Surround Decoder-Digital) circuitry and AL24 processing that more faithfully recreate the nuances and dynamics of the original performance. The receiver's THX Ultra-certified 7-Channel Equal Power amplifier section employs a discrete, wideband power amplifier for each channel and delivers a massive 125 watts (into 8 ohms, from 20 Hz-20 kHz, with no more than 0.08% THD) into each channel, for spectacular ""real life"" reproduction of movie soundtracks and music, even in large home theatre installations. The AVR-4802 incorporates a number of additional refinements for best audio performance, such as isolating the analog, digital, audio, video and power circuit sections to minimize internal noise and interference, and a Pure Direct Mode that turns off the power to the video circuitry and front panel display for maximum sonic purity. The Denon AVR-4802 offers a host of advanced operational and convenience features that make it the ideal control center for high-end home theatre and custom installations. It features an unprecedented array of video and audio inputs, outputs and switching facilities, including three sets of high bandwidth (50 MHz) component video inputs, S-Video and composite video inputs, eight assignable digital inputs, 12 analog audio inputs including phono, and more. The AVR-4802 includes eight-channel audio inputs to accommodate present and future audio formats such as DVD-Audio and SACD, along with eight-channel preamp outputs. The receiver offers sophisticated bass management capabilities, including a choice of five subwoofer crossover points to best match a system's subwoofer to the main speakers, plus additional sound tailoring facilities, such as a Cinema EQ function that compensates for overly bright-sounding movie soundtracks, for a more natural sonic presentation. For best sonic performance when reproducing movies and music, the AVR-4802 features Denon's Dual Surround Mode Speaker Switching, which allows the user to choose between two sets of dipole/bipole and direct-radiating surround speakers for optimum sound quality, when listening to either movie soundtracks or multichannel music. The AVR-4802 offers completely independent operation of a main and a second-zone system, and can be configured in a variety of ways to accommodate different types of multi-room setups. Other useful features include a Personal Memory Plus function that eliminates the need to manually reconfigure settings whenever a different program source is selected, a precision AM/FM tuner, a digital-to-analog recording function that enables the user to make analog recordings directly from digital signal sources, and an RS-232C port for interfacing with third-party system controllers. The Denon AVR-4802 is supplied with Denon's AKTIS RC-8000 programmable LCD remote control. Newly upgraded for improved functionality and ease of use, the AKTIS provides complete control of even the most sophisticated home entertainment systems from a single programmable and customizable touch-screen device, and transmits both IR and RF control signals for total system control flexibility, including multi-room operation. The Denon AVR-4802 A/V surround receiver is currently available at a suggested retail price of $2,500. For more information about Denon Electronics, visit www.denon.com.
