Denon Introduces Its First DVD-Audio/Video Changer With DVD-Audio Bass Management At CEDIA EXPO 2001

September 17. 2001

Denon Electronics, a world leader in digital audio and home theatre technology, announced the introduction of its DVM-4800 five-disc DVD Audio/Video carousel changer, its first DVD player to offer DVD-Audio bass management. The DVM-4800 is an ultimate-performance component in every respect, featuring progressive scan component video output, 3:2 pull-down detection, MP3 compatibility, Denon's newly-developed AL24 Plus 24-bit digital audio circuitry, plus a wealth of additional high-end performance and convenience features. The Denon DVM-4800 is the first-ever DVD player to deliver the full sonic potential of multichannel DVD-Audio discs. In addition to built-in DVD-Audio decoding, the DVM-4800 provides critical DVD-Audio bass management capabilities that were lacking in the first generation of DVD-Audio/Video players, for improved low frequency performance and greater sonic realism in multichannel satellite/subwoofer home theatre systems. The DVM-4800 combines the low frequency content from all the channels of a multichannel DVD-Audio disc and routes the bass to the subwoofer while providing a full range output to the main channels. The Denon DVM-4800 incorporates a host of the most sophisticated digital technologies to achieve unsurpassed video and audio performance. It features progressive scan component video outputs to deliver the best-possible DVD picture quality, virtually eliminating scan lines to produce a sharper, more natural image with exceptional detail. Image quality is further enhanced by the player's superior 3:2 pull-down detection and deinterlacing, which analyzes the actual frame content of film-based DVD program material, rather than the incorrect 3:2 pull-down ""flags"" included in some DVD discs. This true 3:2 pull-down detection eliminates motion artifacts and produces a smoother, more natural picture. The Denon DVM-4800 includes a full complement of additional high-end video technologies to further enhance image quality. The player features a premium Analog Devices 12-bit/54 MHz video D/A converter for state-of-the-art resolution, with 12 dB of additional reduction in D/A conversion artifacts compared to conventional 10-bit DACs. The DVM-4800 also includes Denon's exclusive Super Sub Alias Filter for superior horizontal line resolution, variable black level adjustment with ""below black"" capability, a 4 MB buffer memory to assure uninterrupted playback of dual-layer DVD discs or if a disc dropout occurs, plus many additional refinements. Along with unmatched video quality, the DVM-4800 is engineered for state-of-the-art audio performance. It utilizes latest-generation Burr-Brown PCM-1704 24-bit/192 kHz audio DACs, that deliver optimum sonic performance from two-channel DVD-Audio discs, as well as multiple 24-bit, 96 kHz DACs for high resolution, multichannel audio playback. The DVM-4800 features Denon's newly developed AL24 Plus processing technology for the left and right channel D/A converter section, which employs sophisticated interpolation algorithms and digital filtering for improved low-level resolution and dynamic range, and provides a more musically-natural sonic presentation from two-channel DVD-Audio discs and CDs. Other advanced functions include an Audio Only mode that turns off the video circuitry during DVD-Audio playback for maximum sonic purity, HDCDÆ processing for best sound quality from CDs, built-in DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ 5.1 decoding, and many additional high-end features. The DVM-4800 plays back DVD-Video, DVD-Audio/Video, CD and Video CD discs, and includes MP3 decoding for playback of MP3-encoded CD-R and CD-RW discs, making it the ideal all-in-one digital video and audio program source for the most sophisticated home entertainment systems. The DVM-4800 includes a full selection of operational and convenience features, such as a carousel changer mechanism that allows up to four discs to be exchanged while a fifth disc is playing, an on-screen display with easy one-button remote control access, 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio optimization, and a wide variety of programming and playback options. The Denon DVM-4800 is currently available at a suggested retail price of $1,249. For more information about Denon Electronics, visit www.denon.com.
