MVD Launches Eclectic DVD Distribution

Eclectic DVD Distribution, a division of MVD, will be launched by October 9, 2001, just in time for the East Coast Video Conference. The launch of Eclectic has come in response to the growing number of independent films that are gaining mainstream attention, as well as a need to introduce older ground-breaking films on the relatively new medium of DVD. Eclectic will strive to be the leading distributor of rare and independent films on DVD.ìFor years we turned down non-music films for distribution for two reasons; we didnít want to dilute the strong image of MVD doing Music DVD & Video. We also didnít want to do a mediocre job with the independent films,î says Jennifer Camper, Director of National Sales for Eclectic. ìBy launching Eclectic, we are able to get separation and focus of the two product lines and also bring our customers the highest level of service with a specialized and knowledgeable sales force.î Eclectic is launching seventeen films from Screen Edge, Amos Poe, Ivy Video, Skgrilla, and Ikos. Shapiro has a long history in the video business, having launched one of the first video boutique labels in 1978: Harmony Vision, which was distributed through Vestron.ìThe DVD format is perfectly suited for my signature brand of programming,î said Shapiro. ìI am delighted to be with Eclectic as they expand our reach into the growing DVD market.îMVD, the second largest producer of Music DVD this year, has been extremely busy handling the sales traffic for their ever-expanding collection, some of which include Rage: 20 Years of Punk Rock, Blank Generation/Dancing Barefoot, Songs for Cassavetes, Israel Vibration, Dead Kennedys, Better Living through Circuitry, and Rockers (the legendary Reggae movie). Eclectic will capitalize on the growing popularity of the DVD market by offering consumers rare, non-traditional, and unusual films. By following the groundwork and established infrastructure of parent company MVD, Eclectic will provide excellent films on DVD to retail, distributors, and individual consumers.
