Pioneer Unveils New 50-Inch PureVision Consumer Plasma Display

Pioneer, a leader in digital entertainment technology, today unveiled its sleek new 50-inch PureVisionô consumer plasma display, the Pioneer Elite PRO-1000HD. The unit features new proprietary technologies that provide consumers with brighter, more vivid colors as well as increased brightness, contrast, resolution and clarity. The PRO-1000HD represents Pioneer's commitment to maximizing the visual entertainment experience of consumers, allowing them to create and design the ultimate home theatre.The PRO-1000HD plasma is a true native wide XGA display. The high resolution panel is equipped with 980,000 pixels (1280 x 768) and offers four screen modes to handle various formats including 4:3, zoom, full-screen (16:9) and wide (expanded 16:9). Its screen is perfectly flat, flicker-free and has a viewable angle of more than 160 degrees horizontally and vertically. It is 4-1/8 inches thin and, weighing 102 pounds, 8 ounces, it can be wall-mounted or set on a table stand. Key advancements include: - Pioneer has developed a new Pure Color Filter that significantly decreases external light reflectivity to achieve higher levels of contrast even in direct light. The filter also reduces the unnecessary frequency of the red, green and blue signals to deliver greatly improved color reproduction.- Pioneer's unique deep encased, plasma cell structure produces a greater light emission to achieve 60 percent higher brightness level than the previous 50-inch model. This is achieved by making each cell deeper to increase the phosphor area, and by casing each cell with horizontal ribs to prevent light leakage from neighboring cells.- The Advanced Continuous Emission Display Technology eliminates the false contours that can appear in close-ups of faces. It improves contrast in dark areas, resulting in more detailed, smoother images.- Pioneerís PureCinemaIIô incorporates such features as 2:3 pull-down film detection and NTSC to 480 progressive conversion. This newly enhanced circuit uses progressive conversion to boost the NTSC picture quality from sources such as DVD, LaserDisc and satellite. To accomplish this, it first doubles the interlaced signal to a VGA level (640x480). It then doubles the information content both vertically and horizontally, resulting in an increase in original signal density.
