CEA Announces New DTV Subdivision

Inter-Industry Forum To Focus On Moving DTV Transition Forward

5-Nov-01

Presenting the latest news on the upcoming 2002 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) during a press conference, CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro announced the creation of CEA's Digital Television (DTV) Subdivision. A subset of the CEA Video Division, the DTV Subdivision will provide an inter-industry forum for discussing strategies for resolving the outstanding issues surrounding the broadcast DTV transition. The DTV Subdivision membership will be comprised of companies with an interest in digital television and those who share the common goal of realizing a swift and successful transition. This includes manufacturers and suppliers of DTV-related products and services who have CEA Associate Member status, as well as television manufacturers who have CEA Full Member status. ""We realize there are many, many voices in the DTV transition and the DTV Subdivision aims to bring various industry representatives together to address outstanding issues and promote an expeditious and consumer-friendly DTV transition,"" said Shapiro. ""The new subdivision will become an invaluable sounding board for ideas and solutions coming out of the Video Division Board's DTV Transition Strategy Working Group. The more minds we have committed to tackling the challenges on the road to DTV, the sooner American consumers will enjoy the benefits of the digital transition."" Peter Fannon, Vice President of Technology Policy and Regulatory Affairs for Panasonic/Matsushita Electric Corp. of America, will chair the DTV Subdivision for the remainder of the year and throughout 2002.
