Samsung Announces The World's First HDTV-Ready TFT Computer Monitor With Modular TV Tuner Option

5-Nov-01

Samsung, the world's leading manufacturer of CRT and LCD monitors, introduced their SyncMasterô 151MP and 171MP TFT flat-panel monitors. Samsung was the first company to bring the convergence promise to market with the debut last year of its SyncMaster MP, a three-in-one flat-panel computer display with built-in TV tuner and video inputs for use with a DVD player, VCR or camcorder. Samsung's new SyncMaster 151 and 171 MPs up the stakes to four-in-one functionality, with HDTV-ready capability and a brand new, modular TV-tuner design. The SyncMaster 151MP ($749 street price) and SyncMaster 17-inch 171MP ($1,299 street price) are currently available. ""As the world's number one manufacturer of computer monitors, Samsung is keeping a step ahead by developing the most unique and innovative displays in the marketplace today,"" states Rey Roque, Vice President of Marketing, for Samsung's Digital Information Technology Division, (DITD). ""We are always looking to push the technology envelope, and the new 151MP and 171MP showcase Samsung's ability to provide high-end, multimedia displays for consumers of all needs."" Housed in a sleek champagne colored cabinet, the super slim SyncMaster 151MP has a screen depth of just 2 inches and the 171MP is only 2.3 inches in depth. Both monitors are complete audio/video multimedia devices, capable of allowing viewers to watch two sources of input at the same time with the picture-in-picture feature. Samsung's MPs offer a number of options that give viewers complete control over the on-screen image. The downscaling option displays SXGA video, and a digital zoom allows viewers to magnify any part of the on-screen image up to 64x. A one-touch auto adjustment offers fast and accurate viewing that works on any pattern. The SyncMaster MP series also includes many versatile functions, including an IrDA sensor for a remote controller, soft-touch control buttons, built-in speakers, and a foldable stand that allows users to apply a VESA mounting device. The SyncMaster 171MP features Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA), which incorporates the latest technology advancements in liquid cell structure that improve the monitor's four major viewing criteria, including viewing angle, brightness, contrast and response time. The 171MP has an ultra-fine pixel pitch of 0.264 mm and offers a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024. The SyncMaster 151MP has a pixel pitch of 0.297 mm and allows for a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768. Both displays offer analog RGB and CVBS video input, component video, S-Video, HDTV and an optional TV tuner with an antenna connection for cable TV and satellite viewing. The optional TV turner allows for a high contrast, fully geared standalone TV that supports worldwide TV and video signals, including NTSC and PAL. Samsung's new MP convergence displays have built-in plug and play capability that conforms to the Video Electronics Standards Association's (VESA) Display Data Channel (DDC) Type 1/2B standards. When used with the appropriate hardware and software, plug and play automatically configures the monitor with the host computer and selects the optimum resolution and refresh rates. For energy efficient reduced power consumption, Samsung's MP monitors features a four-stage (On, Standby, Suspend, Off) power management system that complies with the VESA DPMS, NUTEK and Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star standards. Both displays also meet the stringent MPR-II and TCO-95 low emissions standards. The SyncMaster 151MP and 171MP are backed by Samsung's three-year parts, labor and backlight warranty as well as live, toll-free technical support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
