TacT Audio Releases Real Time Parametric Equalizer Software

26-Nov-01

TacT Audio, known for making the world's first fully digital amplifier back in 1998 and also for the groundbreaking room correction technology, has developed a new software which will allow owners of the TacT 2.0 room correction system to perform real-time parametric equalization after performing room correction. While TacT Audio have stated, with some justification, that parametric equalizers cannot solve room related problems because this type of equalization only works in the frequency domain, the use of parametric EQ can be very beneficial in correcting for the often strange frequency response of music software. The advanced PC or IR remote controlled interface allows the user to control up to 10 filters per channel, with each filter adjustable in frequency to within 0.1 Hz, levels in steps of 0.1 dB and filter width (Q factor) from 0.05 to 2.5 octaves in steps of 1/100 of an octave. Furthermore, tone controls with user selectable corner frequencies can be used also as shelving filters. If the PC is used for control of the equalization, it is possible to ""drag and drop"" the individual filters, for a very quick and easy setup of parameters. The software will also show the exact interaction of the filters and tone controls. A memory bank can store 16 presets of equalization parameters in the TacT RCS 2.0, or any number if the PC is connected. All of the computation can be handled by the existing DSPs in the TacT 2.0, so no additional hardware is required. Maintaining everything in the digital domain means that the inclusion of parametric EQ has no effect on noise or distortion. The installation of the software can be done over the Internet. The software costs $295 in the introductory period running until December 1, 2001, and can be purchased afterwards for $395. More information can be found at www.tactaudio.com.
