Lexicon Premieres LX-7 And LX-5 Home Theatre Power Amplifiers

6-Dec-01

Designed and built to the same exceptional standards that distinguish Lexicon digital signal processing in both the professional and consumer markets, the LX Series Power Amplifiers establish a new benchmark for sound quality, power, flexibility and reliability in home theater amplifiers. Both amplifiers have received THXÆ Ultra certification, ensuring they meet the highest standards for performance and sound set forth by Lucasfilm?s Home THX division. The LX amplifiers offer high power output that can be configured for virtually any type of home system. The LX-7 is a seven-channel power amplifier, producing 200 watts per channel. The LX-5 is a five-channel power amplifier, producing 200 watts per channel. Channel pairs on both amplifiers can be bridged to provide as many as two 400-watt channels (at 8 ohms), in addition to the remaining 200-watt channels for greater flexibility. For optimum sound quality and consistency, LX amplifiers feature four custom designed, hand-graded output transistors per channel. The amps also feature an oversized toroidal power transformer with extremely low DC resistance and thermal protection. Each has high power supply voltage (160 V) for extra headroom at the outputs. Quiet, microprocessor-controlled, forced-air cooling further reduces noise while minimizing chassis size. For exceptional performance and reliability, even under extreme operating conditions, the LX amplifiers feature Junction Temperature Simulation (JTS) advanced thermal protection. A JTS computer predicts internal temperatures to protect output transistors from overheating, allowing the amplifiers to achieve maximum performance with a minimum number of output transistors. In addition, the LX amplifiers feature thermal protection for each channel and the main power transformer. The amplifiers also provide DC protection for each channel, preventing DC and frequencies below 10 Hz from reaching the speakers. Designed to protect against short circuits, device failures, miswiring, and internal faults, the LX amplifiers are stable with mismatched, reactive or unusual loads. Multi-color channel status LEDs indicate current operational status. For maximum flexibility, LX amplifiers feature a rear-panel trigger input that allows them to be powered on and off by external devices. A ground lift switch reduces audible hum caused by multiple grounding paths. Heavy-duty, gold-plated loudspeaker binding posts, single-ended (RCA), 1/4-inch tip/ring/sleeve and balanced (XLR) inputs are included on both models. A rack-mount option is also available. The LX-7 has an MSRP of $5,995 in the U.S., and the LX-5 has a U.S. MSRP of $4,995. Both amplifiers are available immediately. For more information, visit www.lexicon.com.
