Bryston Delivers SP 1.7 Preamplifier/Processor To Home Theatres In 7.1, 6.1, 5.1 Or Stereo

December 21. 2001

Bryston, Canada's largest independent manufacturer of high-end audio electronics for consumers and professionals will introduce the SP 1.7 preamplifier/processor at the 2002 International CES. Answering the call of audiophile home theatre owners, the carefully-designed SP 1.7 delivers analog and digital preamplification and processing into virtually every output format and speaker configuration -- from THXÆ to surround 7.1 to mono. Like all Bryston equipment, every SP 1.7 is hand-built in Canada and comes with an unlimited 20-year warranty. Like its predecessor, the Bryston SP 1, the SP 1.7 can operate in two modes: ""digital"" and ""bypass."" The first provides decoding for all home theatre technologies: DolbyÆ Digital, Dolby Pro Logic, DTS-ESÆ Discrete 6.1, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1, DTSÆ Neo:6Æ, THX Surround EXô, THX Ultra-certified, as well as PCM (32, 44.1, 48 and 96 kHz) through 24-bit converters. In contrast, ""bypass"" mode turns the SP 1.7 into an audiophile analog preamplifier (the technical equivalent of the Bryston BP-25 stereo preamp), delivering flawless, completely discrete amplification of stereo analog inputs. Despite its uncompromised flexibility, the SP 1.7 remains remarkably easy to use through intuitive ergonomics, user-friendly setup menus, and automatic detection and switching of digital modes. All digital and analog input and output connectors are gold-plated. Unique to the SP 1.7 is that each output connector -- balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) -- is driven by its own dedicated line amp, eliminating interaction and allowing optimum performance. The SP 1.7 also boasts mono and stereo downmixing along with bass management in every digital mode. An RS232 port allows integration of external control systems and video switchers, and two 12-volt trigger outputs allow remote control of home theatre accessories such as motorized drapes and screens. The SP 1.7 also comes with a backlit, wide-angle remote control. ""In an age when truly high-fidelity playback systems are becoming the norm, enthusiasts will notice an appreciable difference between our audiophile processors and lesser systems,"" said Karen Richardson, Vice President of Consumer Sales, Bryston. ""There's a good chance that the professionals who mixed or mastered any given recording or movie monitored using Bryston amplifiers which are the professional standard. For listeners who wants to hear the mix as it was truly intended there is only one choice -- Bryston."" Each unit undergoes a 100-hour ""burn in"" to assure flawless performance. Bryston Ltd. is also the exclusive North American distributor of the U.K.-based Professional Monitor Company (PMC). For more information, visit www.bryston.ca.
