Clark Synthesis has announceed that Sensation, the world's first tactile-equipped theatre seat has received the prestigious Innovations 2002 Design and Engineering Award, sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association.Sensation features a built-in, customized Clark Tactile Sound Transducerô, an audio driver that produces vibrations over the full range of tactile and audible frequencies (in contrast to similar products known as shakers that add only vague bass vibrations). When attached to a resonant surface (floor, chair, couch), Tactile Sound Transducersô supplement ordinary speakers and subwoofers, effectively increasing the proportion of sound you hear and feel through bone conduction. Consequently, the user experiences the natural percussive impact of movie sounds. Beautifully designed and finely crafted, Sensation's ergonomic styling easily integrates into any room decor. The ultra-rigid hardwood frame made from New Zealand Beech, specially treated composite wood side panels, heavy-duty adhesives, dowels, and fasteners are all used to tightly secure all elements to easily handle the transmission of tactile sound, without structurally affecting the chair. A variety of commercial-grade plush upholstery fabrics are available to further customize the look and feel of Sensation, and the specially-contoured seat back reclines to a optimal viewing position, while providing comfort and easy accessibility for viewers seated in the row behind, requiring only eight inches of rear clearance. The flat sides of the recliner allow the chairs to fit neatly side by side. Completing the picture is a padded footrest, stainless steel drink holder, and highly-regarded Atlas foam for the ultimate in luxury seating.Innovations 2002 entries are judged by a panel of prominent industry experts. For the seventh year, the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) has endorsed and acted as advisors to the Design & Engineering Showcase.
