Yamaha Electronics Corporation has extended its digital A/V design and Cinema DSP technology expertise into several new market categories, reaffirming the company's strong commitment to providing the total solution for the ultimate home theatre experience. New products previewed at CES by Yamaha included a 50-inch plasma video display with flat panel speakers and digital amplifiers, a DVD+RW recorder, along with the introduction of a new flagship A/V receiver and DVD changer -- the RX-Z1 and DVD-CX1, respectively -- and several new A/V receivers. Yamaha's longstanding reputation for quality and innovation is built upon the company's considerable depth in understanding of digital processing technology, acoustic architecture, and expertise in sound and music -- ultimately bringing theatre-quality sound to the home. But with its aggressive push into new product areas, Yamaha is not only raising the benchmark for both audio and video enjoyment, but also showcasing how its offerings provide ""the best seat in the house"" -- for the living room, family room, bedroom, computer room, gaming system, or custom installation. Following up the debut of its critically-acclaimed video projector for home theatre -- the DPX-1 -- Yamaha previewed its first direct-view solution, the PDM-1(tentative model number), an elegant, 50-inch plasma display monitor that provides the ultimate in home theatre aesthetics. Lightweight and slim in profile, the PDM-1 offers a wide viewing angle of 160 degrees, as well as film-like picture quality, and natural black and white to meet the demands of any DVD or HDTV viewing experience. It also automatically detects NTSC progressive-scan signals, and includes a number of multimedia input options for connection flexibility. Complementing the contemporary contours of the PDM-1 are new flat panel speakers, which mount directly to the sides of the plasma display monitor, or can be hung directly on a wall for ease of installation. The magnetically-shielded speakers are also perfect for use in rear-effect and center channel dialogue applications, as well as in situations where exceptional natural sound quality in a small space is a prime consideration. The new Yamaha speakers, which are the result of a joint development agreement with Tokyo-based FPS, Inc., feature MCMA (Multi Cell Micro-transducer Array) technology that enables the speakers to be exceptionally thin, yet offer several advantages over conventional dynamic speakers, including highly accurate sonic directivity and reach. To create an entirely flat A/V system, Yamaha previewed several digital amplifiers for use with its plasma display monitors and flat panel speakers. Yamaha also showed its new DVD+RW recorder, the DVD-R2000, which can capture up to four hours of video and audio. Conforming to the industry's DVD+RW Alliance standards, the new Yamaha recorder is fully compatible with prerecorded DVD-Video discs, and DVD+RW discs authored on the unit will play on other DVD-Video players and DVD-ROM drives. One-touch recording makes operation both effortless and flexible, and since no finalization is necessary, additional recordings can be made at any time (including more than 1,000 overwrites). Yamaha has introduced its RX-Z1 digital home theatre receiver. The flagship receiver for high performance home theater systems, the RX-Z1 is compatible with the newest surround formats, including DolbyÆ Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-ESÆ Discrete 6.1, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1-channel decoding, DTS 96/24 and DTS Neo:6Æ. This new receiver also features Cinema DSP, which is designed to bring out the full potential of all movie sound formats, reproducing them the way directors and sound engineers intended them to be heard. Yamaha's durable line of RX-V series receivers have also been updated and enhanced, offering increased performance and feature sets for greater customer value. The company's new flagship DVD-CX1 universal DVD changer offers such performance and construction quality that it can serve as the audio/video source for any upscale home theatre system. In addition, the DVD-CX1 offers a host of custom installation features, along with an array of user-friendly operational features. For product and sales information, visit www.yamaha.com/yec.
