Yamaha Introduces New Home Theatre-In-A-Box Systems

Yamaha, the innovator of Digital Sound Field processing and surround, is making it easier to experience realistic, dynamic, full surround sound with the introduction of six new home theatre-in-a-box systems, which range from a basic system containing only an audio/video receiver and speakers, to those featuring a DolbyÆ Pro Logic II receiver, speakers, a subwoofer, and a five-disc DVD player.The new system series covers a broadened range of price points, reaching from $499 to $1,699, and reflect changes in technology, as well as inclusion of additional components.""The addition of higher price-points within this new series is due to the fact that we've developed higher performance packages to serve this growing segment, and have added features that weren't included with the older systems,"" explained Tom Graham, Vice President of Marketing for Yamaha Electronics Corp. The YHT-900 is the top-of-the-line home theatre-in-a-box system with a suggested retail price of $1,699, and includes a high performance Yamaha HTR-5560 Dolby Pro Logic II/DTSÆ 6.1-channel audio/video receiver, a Yamaha DV-C6480 five-disc DVD-Audio changer with progressive-scan technology, component video connection capability, the Yamaha NS-AP580 large dual-driver, 6.1 wood speaker package, and a Yamaha YST-SW205 150-watt Advanced YST active subwoofer. With its enhanced directional steering, Dolby Pro Logic II provides 5.1-channel surround processing from any stereo source -- even from two-channel CDs, tapes, VHS and LPs -- and delivers full-bandwidth stereo surround channels (20 Hz-20 kHz) with 40 dB of left-right separation. Rated at 80 W x 6, the receiver is able to deliver sophisticated internal surround decoding and DSP processing enabled by the YSS-938, a newly-developed 32-bit floating point LSI.The receiver also features Cinema DSP, which provides an audio experience that not only sounds like a theatre, but actually sounds better than most theatres. Cinema DSP is designed to bring out the full potential of movie sound formats, reproducing them the way directors and sound engineers intended them to be heard. And, for listening to late night multichannel presentations in privacy, it utilizes unique Silent Cinema, which provides a 5.1-channel listening experience using a pair of ordinary two-channel headphones. Moreover, 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters are used for all six channels. In addition to progressive-scan, which delivers higher resolution video, the DVD player features Yamaha's patented five-disc PlayXchange technology, which allows a user to change four discs while the fifth is playing. The changer features an advanced on-screen menu system for easy operation, and utilizes a high quality, 10-bit video DAC and 96 kHz/24-bit audio DACs. It also has a built-in Dolby Digital/DTS decoder, has two digital outputs -- one optical, one coaxial -- as well as component, S-video, and composite video outputs. The receiver is rated at 80 W x 5 and delivers Virtual 6.1 surround sound to five channels. In addition to the YSS-938 32-bit floating point LSI, Silent Cinema, Dolby Pro Logic II, and the preset remote control, this receiver has four video connections with four S-video inputs, and four fixed and assignable digital inputs.The newly-designed speaker package included with the YHT-800 features two-way, dual 3-inch drivers and 3/4-inch balanced dome tweeters, a maximum of 100 W handling power, binding posts, and a removable grille. The receiver is identical to the unit packaged with the YHT-800.The speaker package features a sturdy, black finished wood cabinet, dual 3-inch drivers and 1/2-inch dome tweeters, a maximum of 100 W handling power, binding posts, and a removable grille. Its 70 W powered Advanced YST subwoofer features an 8-inch Spruce cone driver, variable crossover, an auto on/off power switch, binding post speaker terminals, and includes an RCA line cable.The DVX-S100 is actually a high performance DVD home cinema system with a suggested retail price of $999. Designed for those that like simplicity and ease in a surround sound system, this slim unit is actually a progressive-scan DVD player that includes a high performance Dolby Digital/Dolby Pro Logic II/DTS decoder, a 5.1-channel, 35 W x 5 amplifier, a five speaker package, and a 50-watt powered subwoofer. The receiver is rated at 80 W x 5 and delivers virtual 6.1 surround sound to five channels.
