Pioneer DV-AX10 Is DVD Player That Does It All

First Player On Market That Plays DVD-Video, DVD-Audio And SACD

23-Jan-02

Pioneer Electronics today announced the industryís first truly universal DVD player, which raises the bar on performance and convenience by offering playback of DVD-Video, DVD-Audio and SACD. The DV-AX10 which will be available beginning in April for a suggested retail price of $6,000 includes Pioneerís exclusive PureCinemaô progressive scan outputs, and an array of unique features that set it apart from the competition. ìDVD-Audio has completely changed the way artists create music. Artists can now create a true three-dimensional environment with sound quality that far surpasses conventional CDs,î said Matthew Dever, vice president, Pioneer Home Entertainment Division. Key Audio Features Each audio channel is equipped with the high-performance DAC (digital-to-analog converter) developed together with Burr-Brown Japan Corp., known for its development of DACs for high-end audio products. A high-sampling digital filter placed in the digital audio processor digitally removes the cumbersome harmonic distortion and efficiently reproduces only the 192kHz high-sampling frequency. The digital filter was developed with the cooperation of Nippon Precision Circuits Inc. In order to reproduce high-quality sound, the Pure Audio Clock Reference Function automatically converts the crystal oscillator to either 44.1 lineage frequency (44.1 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 176.4 kHz) or 48 kHz lineage (48 kHz, 96 kHz, 192 kHz) frequency. Furthermore, the function automatically turns off the unused oscillator to avoid unwanted resonance that could lead to sound degradation. An acoustic damper tray and double air-lock door eliminates vibrations. Circuit R-core power transformer for high-quality audio. Balanced audio outputs. A CD Digital Direct Function bypasses the DSP processor and routes the audio signal directly to the output stages, resulting in improved audio performance and a reduction in signal noise. A high-bit IC in each audio channel automatically converts any 16-bit digital signals to a predicted, but ideal smooth frequency wave at a 24-bit depth. To further improve the sound quality, all video functions have a ëvideo offí function that can be used to eliminate even the tiniest noise generated from the video circuit. A built-in DTS (Digital Theater System) & Dolby Digital Decoder. By connecting the player to a 5.1 channel-ready A/V receiver or pre-amp, the unit provides multi-channel DVD-Audio playback and can replicate the same surround sound effect of a movie theater. Key Video Features A newly-developed component frame DNR PRO Circuit compares two subsequent video frames and distinguishes differences between the two. These differences are analyzed and the noise is removed. This process occurs on each component output independently. The Pioneer-designed PureCinemaô circuit provides a progressive scan output of the highest quality. By processing the DVD signal completely in the digital domain, this circuit requires only one digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion. Conventional A/D and D/A conversions in the progressive scan display are no longer required, avoiding any associated signal degradation. If the original source of the DVD was film, the PureCinema circuit will faithfully reproduce the original film frames using 2-3 pull-down inverse telecine technology and display them progressively. If the DVD does not indicate telecine conversion, the PureCinema circuit will process the signal with advanced motion detection and create the new progressive image. Pioneer follows technical formats approved at the CPTWG, regarding progressive scan output rights. Convenience Features A 15-step trick play processor provides smoother trick play operations. The 16 megabytes of memory offer a variety of frame advance/reverse and slow motion plays in forward and reverse directions. It includes an exclusive circuit for users to enjoy various reverse special effects beyond the capabilities of conventional DVD players, including normal-speed reverse playback function. A simple joy-stick style remote control makes operation simple. Transport functions are illuminated making operation easy, even in the dark. A new graphic user interface (GUI) has two modes that will allow easy control of the player functions and features. ëBasic modeí will show only basic functions needed for simple changes can be made even when a disc is being played. Component video output terminal for direct Y, PB and PR video connection. CD-R/RW playback ready high-precision twin-wave focus pickup. Digital accurate servo for a stable playback. High-precision 10-bit NTSC encoder and 10-bit video DAC. FL dimmer.
