Sony Electronics announced its support of Digital Visual Interface (DVI) with high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) by unveiling 13 new Hi-Scan 1080iô television sets and a prototype of a second-generation high-definition receiver. The new DVI/HDCP-compliant products deliver uncompressed, copy-protected, high-definition video content through its digital DVI-HDTV interface. The television sets range in size from a 34-inch 16:9 flat-screen direct-view model in the FD TrinitronÆ WEGAÆ series to 51- to 65-inch rear-projection widescreen models. ""We are pleased to be at the forefront of this new secure format, providing a total HDTV solution through our new compliant products,"" said Tim Alessi, Director of Marketing for Sony Electronics' Visual Network Products Company. DVI/HDCP has garnered cross-industry acceptance and is supported by satellite service providers like DIRECTVÆ, as well as major motion picture studios and other content providers. Sony's 2002 line-up of DVI/HDCP-enabled products include 13 new Hi-Scan 1080i television sets and a next-generation HD receiver.
