Sunfire Introduces The Theater Grand III

3-May-02

Bob Carver's Sunfire Corporation introduced the third generation to its Theater Grand line of home theatre processors. The Theater Grand III offers all of today's processing schemes including Dolby Digital EX and what the company claims is the world's easiest upgrade path. The Theater Grand III (TGIII) is the first processor to feature the new Motorola DSP56367 150 MHz Symphony DSP chip. Processing schemes include DolbyÆ Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-ESÆ, and DTS Neo:6Æ, along with a new, all-digital implementation of Bob Carver's Holographic Imaging. By canceling acoustic crosstalk within the listening space, Holographic Imaging is said to recreate the stereo image. The TGIII's connection suite includes three buffered, high-definition component video inputs (two outputs) and an eight-channel direct path, analog input for DVD-Audio and SACD. The TGIII provides balanced outputs for all eight channels. The TGIII can also pull double duty in a second room by providing stereo playback, including downmixing from a multichannel source, in another room in the house. The second zone features a fully independent volume control that can be controlled with infrared commands. The TGIII monitors all input activity, switches to new sources and selects the right surround mode for each input -- all automatically. The supplied preprogrammed/learning LCD remote features ""soft keys,"" illuminated keys that change with each source selection. With so many new formats, copy protection schemes, and software upgrades emerging, obsolescence is a real concern in the minds of consumers. Sunfire has addressed this problem in a unique and simple way. When it's time to upgrade the software, Sunfire sends you a CD that is watermarked with the software upgrade. All the consumer needs to do is play the CD and the data is extracted. By the time the music is finished, the upgrade is complete. Suggested retail pricing of the Theater Grand III is $3,495 and is expected to ship in May 2002. For more information about Sunfire Corporation, visit www.sunfire.com.
