Onkyo has introduced the TX-SR700, a 6.1-channel home theatre receiver to replace the TX-DS696 receiver. New features include a sixth amplifier channel, DolbyÆ Digital EXô and DTS-ESÆ processing, adjustable subwoofer crossovers, two digital outputs, and a full array of front-panel inputs. The TX-SR700 features professional-grade component video switching for high-definition television or progressive scan DVD signals, and Y/C separation for composite-to-S-video conversion eliminating the need for redundant video connections. With its Powered Zone 2 capability, the TX-SR700 is capable of playing independent stereo sources in two different rooms simultaneously, without the need for an external power amplifier. For dynamic home theatre and audio sound reproduction, the TX-SR700 produces 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, with less than 0.08% THD. Onkyo's Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) provides an extended frequency response of 10 Hz-100 kHz. The front left/right channels use 192 kHz/24-bit linear PCM DACs. All six amplified channels feature fully discrete output stages, providing high current, low impedance drive for difficult speaker loads. The TX-SR700 has a full suite of connection options, including front panel inputs with S-video, analog A/V, and even an optical digital audio port. The rear panel features two component video inputs and one output, a total of five S-video inputs and three outputs, one coaxial and three optical digital inputs, and two digital audio outputs. In addition, the receiver has five A/V and three audio RCA inputs, 5.1 multichannel analog inputs for DVD-Audio and SACD, and pre-outs for all channels. The receiver allows for setup and operation through on-screen menus or the dot matrix fluorescent front panel display. Speaker configuration and distance settings allow for optimization of any speaker arrangement, and with the new adjustable crossover on the subwoofer pre-out channel, the LFE signal can be cutoff at 80, 100, or 120 Hz, depending on the subwoofer used. The sophisticated digital processing circuitry also includes 13 DSP modes, as well as Onkyo's CinemaFILTER, which corrects for the ""brightness"" that soundtracks designed for large theatres often exhibit when played in the home. The unit also features a backlit preprogrammed/learning remote control. The AM/FM tuner section has 40 random presets and FM automatic scan tuning. The TX-SR700 is currently available with a suggested retail price of $830.
