KEF has announced that the latest addition to its new Reference Series of Uni-Q loudspeakers -- the top-of-the-range Model 207 -- is now in full production and is being delivered to KEF's U.S. dealers through KEF America. A true five-way design, the 207 is distinguished by the cast aluminum pod, which is shaped to damp the internal soundfield of KEF's new generation Uni-Q upper midrange/high frequency driver. Beneath the elliptical profile titanium Hypertweeterô, a bonded Uni-FormÆ cone/surround provides the optimum wave-guide for the 25mm titanium dome high frequency unit. The lower midrange driver is derived from the low frequency unit, and features KEF's lightweight neodymium magnet assembly, allowing it to be effectively decoupled from the cabinet, to improve imaging and integration while minimizing coloration. Both long-throw 10-inch bass drivers operate in parallel at low frequencies where throw is critical, but the lower unit is rolled off early to allow the top low frequency driver to dominate at the crossover to the Uni-Q, for smooth integration. The woofers have a combined area equivalent to a single 15-inch cone, and are separately loaded into individual direct radiator sub-enclosures. Finishes are available in Real Wood Black Ash Veneer, Real Wood Cherry Veneer, or Real Wood Maple Veneer. The KEF Uni-Q Model 207 is priced at $15,000 per pair.
