Samsung Electronics America, Inc. has introduced the first large-screen, tabletop projection DTVs that incorporate Texas Instruments next generation DLPô technology and the new DVI (digital video interface) HDTV interface for true digital connection. Samsung DLP technology into the home with two HDTV monitor designs, the 43-inch HLM437W and the 50-inch HLM507W. Both models will be available for under $4,500 in select stores this summer and will be widely available in the fourth quarter.The 43-inch HLM437W weighs in at 75 pounds, with a 15.7-inch back-to-front footprint, while the 50-inch HLM507W weighs 84 pounds and boasts an 18-inch back-to-front footprint. Both models feature a 16:9 aspect ratio.Steve G. Samsung's DLP technology-enabled televisions include multiple widescreen format inputs, DVD progressive scan input, 15-pin D-sub computer input, and inverse 3:2 pulldown, which corrects film productions that are transferred to video. A dual-tuner picture-in-picture feature enables viewing of two video sources simultaneously, with sizing and positioning options for the second screen, including side-by-side twin picture mode. The HLM437W and HLM507W operate at true 720 x 1280 high-definition resolution. An advanced format converter changes all incoming signals to this high-resolution format before display.The HLM437W and the HLM507W also have a 30-watt stereo audio system, 3D Y/C digital comb filter, a picture format adjustment to compensate for different video formats by digitally expanding the picture to fill the screen when necessary, an advanced translucent on-screen display, and a universal remote control.The 43-inch HLM437W will be available for $3,999.99 (MSRP) and the 50-inch HLM507W will be available for $4,499.99 (MSRP).
