Thomson Multimedia has introduced of seven new RCA brand DVD players. The full-featured lineup includes two progressive scan units with inverse 3:2 pulldown, a five-disc changer, a portable player with a seven-inch screen, and a DVD/VCR combination unit. Six of the seven new DVD players offer Digital PhotoView, which enables playback of JPEG files from a CD-R/RW disc in a slideshow format with rotating capability on a television. Other features shared by all players include DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ compatibility; Scene Again (one-button instant replay); and CD-R/RW, MP3, Video CD, and DVD+R/RW playback. ""Thomson's global DVD strategy enables us to capitalize on our worldwide resources to deliver high quality, full-featured DVD products,"" said Al Arras, Senior Executive Vice President, Worldwide Audio, Video and ATLINKS Strategic Business Unit. ""With the growth of the DVD category and the large assortment of choices for consumers, it is essential to differentiate and provide unique features that consumers want. The new RCA DVD lineup, with features such as Digital Photoview, DCDiô progressive scan technology, and exclusive MP3PRO audio decoding, delivers convenience and performance advantages,"" he added. The DRC480N DVD-Video player incorporates Faroudja's DCDi progressive scan technology. This DVD player also has an MP3PRO decoder that supports playback of CD-quality MP3PRO music files. NUONô technology inside the player enables a number of new features such as full-scale zoom from 0.5x to 15x, Smart Resume (which remembers where disc playback stopped with up to ten discs), voice enhancement, and Virtual Light Machine (creates colorful images on the television screen to complement the type of music being played on a CD or MP3 disc.) The NUON processor also provides additional JPEG viewing options including simultaneous MP3 and JPEG playback (for adding music to the picture show), navigation of JPEG and MP3 files in the same directory, zoom and pan of JPEG images, and rotation of JPEG pictures by 90, 180, and 270 degrees. The DRC480N, with a new slim design cabinet, has one set of A/V composite jacks, a component video output, S-video, and optical and coaxial digital output jacks. It will be available in August. The suggested retail price is $249. The second progressive scan player, the DRC350N, has 1.5x, 2x, and 4x zoom capability, five-disc memory, and virtual surround sound. Connections include a component video output, S-video output, one set of A/V composite jacks, and optical and coaxial digital audio output jack. The DRC350N is available now at a suggested retail price of $209. The DRC500N features a five-disc DVD/CD changer with one-disc memory, special effects, zoom, random play, and 30-minute auto-off. The connection package includes: two sets of RCA audio output jacks, one composite video jack, a component video output, S-video output, optical and coaxial digital output jacks, and a headphone jack with volume control. Model DRC500N is now available at a suggested retail price of $229. The DRC300N is the second player with MP3PRO and NUON technology, and has the same NUON processor-powered features as the DRC480N. This unit also has a jog shuttle control for fast forward and reverse, and 30-minute auto-off. Connections include two sets of composite video outputs, component video output, S-video output, headphone jack with volume control, and optical and coaxial digital audio output jacks. It will be available this summer at a suggested retail price of $199. The final standalone player is the RCA DVD player model DRC220N, which features 1x to 4x zoom, five-disc memory, SRSÆ TruSurroundô, and 30-minute auto-off. The player has component video output, headphone jack with volume control, optical and coaxial digital output jacks, S-video output, and one set of A/V composite jacks. The DRC220N is now available at a suggested retail price of $179. The latest DVD/VCR combination unit from RCA is the DRC6000N. The DVD player has features such as multi-speed fast-forward/rewind, multi-speed slow motion, zoom, and SRS TruSurround. This model also has a coaxial digital output jack, front A/V composite jack, RF input/output jack, S-video output, component output, and one set of A/V composite jacks. The DRC6000N will be available in August at a suggested retail price of $329. The new RCA DRC600N portable DVD player has a suggested retail price of $549, boasts a seven-inch widescreen LCD display, and will play for over three hours from a rechargeable lithium ion battery. This portable player has a five-disc memory and special effects. The unit, weighing under two pounds, also contains a mini-optical digital output jack, headphone jack with volume control, and S-video and A/V composite jacks. A credit card-sized remote is also included. The RCA DRC600N will be available in August.
