19-Jul-02

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. has introduced the DVD-L100, featuring a 10-inch TFT-LCD display in true 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the largest available on the market today. The DVD-L100 is also the first portable DVD player with Memory Stick compatibility. The DVD-L100 is housed in a sleek chassis with a thickness of 0.9 inch. The built-in Memory Stick port allows users to instantly view their digital photos or listen to music recorded in the MP3 format. In addition to photo CDs and MP3-encoded CD-R/CD-RWs, the DVD-L100 also handles DVDs, CDs, DVD-Rs, Video CDs, and HDCD-encoded audio discs. The DVD-L100s features a screen inversion system for convenient mounting. Dual headphone outputs are included. Claude Frank, Director for Digital Audio/Video, Samsung Electronics America, Inc., said, ""The DVD-L100 solves many challenges of portable DVD players while providing an elegant solution to DVD entertainment on the road. Samsung has introduced a player that not only provides quality DVD viewing, but also stays a step ahead of competitive models in terms of on-the-go features. The DVD-L100 is unobtrusive when closed, yet gives the viewer the largest picture available from any portable DVD player."" The DVD-L100 offers a full complement of analog and digital audio outputs, as well as both composite and S-video connections. A credit card-sized remote control is included. The DVD-L100 employs Samsung's Smart Inverter Control system (SIC) for extended battery life. This exclusive Samsung technology monitors ambient light conditions, and adjusts the display's backlight accordingly to save power. There is playing time of up to three hours on the standard battery; a six-hour battery is an optional addition. The DVD-L100 will be available in July at $1,199.99 (MSRP).
