Kenwood USA Corporation has introduced four new audio/video receivers priced between $200 and $600, and offering new features such as a selectable sixth amplifier channel, three-mode Active Speaker Equalization, Kenwood's K-STATô discrete amplifier technology, and the industry's first use of SRSÆ Labs' new Circle SurroundÆ II processing in audio/video receivers. Kenwood has equipped the VR-6070, VR-6060, and VR-6050 receivers with exclusive technologies borne of its Kenwood Sovereignô line of products. The line is highlighted by the VR-6070, a 6.1-channel receiver with THXÆ Select certification, component and S-video switching, dual-zone audio/video capability, and a universal RF/IR remote. The VR-6070 is equipped with DolbyÆ Digital, DTSÆ, Dolby Pro Logic II surround decoding, THX Surround EXô DTS-ESÆ,and Circle Surround II. The VR-6070 also features optical and coaxial digital connections and a six-channel analog connection for DVD-Audio/SACD applications. Brian Towne, Director of Product Development for Kenwood USA Corporation, said, ""The new line of Kenwood audio/video receivers is modeled after our premium Kenwood Sovereign line -- incorporating advanced features not often found at these everyday price points. Each model in the 2002 line offers tremendous value and performance."" Although five channels of amplification is the standard in most A/V receivers, the VR-6070 and VR-6060 add a sixth channel of discrete amplification that is selectable for use either with a surround back speaker or passive subwoofer. The VR-6070 is the first receiver to offer Circle Surround II, which delivers full-range surround sound from mono, stereo, and matrixed surround soundtracks 5.1 or 6.1 channel home theatre systems. A Cinema mode is used for watching video and a Music mode is used for listening to audio. The receiver also offers Kenwood's new three-mode Active Speaker Equalization, which is said to tailor the response of smaller speakers to increase presence and impact. The circuit has selectable Cinema, Music, and TV modes. For amplification, the VR-6070 incorporates Kenwood's K-STAT Discrete Audio Amplifier and outputs a rated 100 watts x 6 channels of power. The VR-6070's DSP circuitry, which recreates five listening environments (arena, theater, jazz club, stadium, and disco) is handled by a Melodyô DSP 32-bit decoder from Analog Devices. The receiver's A/D (analog-to-digital) and D/A converters provide 24-bit resolution for each channel. The VR-6070 comes with Kenwood's RF/IR universal/learning remote control, featuring an LCD display and a new ergonomic joystick, designed with DVD and DSS menus in mind. The remote can communicate with the receiver, (and other components it controls) from virtually any room in the house, as ""line-of-sight"" is not required. Model VR-6060 Home Theatre Receiver The new six-channel VR-6060 offers Kenwood's K-STAT Discrete Power Amplifier circuitry that outputs 100 watts x 6 of power, along with Dolby Digital EXô, DTS-ES, Dolby Pro Logic II, and Circle Surround II. Bass is directed via built-in, full-digital bass management. The VR-6060 includes the same RF/IR universal/learning remote as the VR-6070. Two IR repeater outputs allow connection of IR repeaters that relay control commands to other components, allowing the entire system to be controlled via RF. Model VR-6050 Home Theatre Receiver The VR-6050 is a 5.1-channel receiver with 100 watts x 5 channels of K-STAT audio amplification, and offers Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II, Circle Surround II and three-mode Active Speaker Equalization. The VR-6050 offers S-video and composite video switching, six-channel analog inputs for DVD-Audio, and built-in digital bass management. The receiver includes a preset IR remote with joystick control. Model VR-605 Home Theatre Receiver Kenwood's 2002 home audio component line also includes the new entry-level model VR-605, a 5.1-channel receiver equipped to deliver 100 watts x 5 channels. It provides Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II, decoding plus five DSP modes for music and video sources. Cinema EQ, which optimizes response to match small speakers and subwoofers, is also included. The VR-605 includes full digital bass management and provides three digital inputs (one optical and two coaxial). The receiver is packaged with a Kenwood IR system remote control.
