Polk Audio Improves Home Theatre Satellite/Subwoofer Speaker System

26-Sep-02

Polk Audio introduced the new RM6005 six-piece, five-channel home theatre speaker system, featuring matched satellites and a powered subwoofer. The RM6005 is an update of Polk's RM6000 system, released in 2001. The new model features an improved subwoofer. The styling of the RM6005 satellites incorporates soft lines and a sculpted shape reminiscent of smoothed stone. The RM6005 satellite and center enclosures are low-resonance, injection-molded ABS. The satellites are available in either Black or Titanium finish and the subwoofer is Black. The front and surround satellites employ 3-inch midrange drivers and a 1/2-inch (12mm) silk dome tweeter. The center speaker uses the same tweeter as the satellites and two midrange. All satellites are magnetically shielded. The crossover features a small value Mylar bypass capacitor across the main (non-polar electrolytic) cap in the high-pass network, to improve high-frequency extension. The RM6005 satellites (including center) feature integral keyhole slots for wall mounting, and can accommodate optional fully articulating mounting brackets via a built-in threaded insert. The all-new powered subwoofer for the new RM6005 system uses a 10-inch driver. A built-in 50-watt RMS amplifier powers the woofer. The enclosure is vented via a single port that is flared at both ends. The subwoofer is magnetically shielded. The RM6005 will be available in North America in September 2002.
