Polk Audio Introduces New RM Series Home Theatre Satellite/Subwoofer Speaker System

26-Sep-02

Polk Audio introduced the new RM6700 six-piece, five-channel home theatre speaker system, featuring matched compact satellites and a powered subwoofer. The RM6700 replaces the RM6200 and RM6600 systems and features improved performance. The RM6700 satellite and center speaker enclosures are low-resonance, injection-molded, mineral-filled polypropylene and are available in Black, Titanium or White. Subwoofer enclosures are fabricated from MDF, and finished in black real wood veneer with a Titanium finish front baffle. The RM6700 satellites and center speakers feature Polk's patented Power Port technology. ""A common problem with palm-of-hand-sized satellites is weak lower-midrange frequency response,"" explained Product Line Manager Al Baron. ""That creates the 'hole-in-the-midrange' effect that many listeners object to. We used a new long excursion driver, plus our patented Power Port venting technology to make the bottom-end response of these satellites much more robust than other similarly sized sat/sub systems. The result is seamless satellite-to-subwoofer blending, rich lower-midrange response, and wide dynamic range. The 6700 system sounds like a good set of full-size speakers."" The satellites may be wall-mounted via keyhole slots molded into the Power Ports, or with optional wall brackets that attach to the built-in threaded inserts on the backs of the front, rear, and center speakers. Front and rear satellites use a 3-1/2-inch midrange driver and a 3/4-inch polymer-treated silk dome tweeter. The center speaker uses the same tweeter as the satellites, and two midrange drviers. All satellites are magnetically shielded. The RM6700 satellite and center channel speakers also feature Polk's anti-diffraction system, whereby the driver components are raised above the baffle plane to minimize grille edge diffraction. An all-new powered subwoofer (PSW303) features an 8-inch long-throw driver with a hi-roll surround, powered by a built-in 100-watt continuous power (265 watts dynamic) amplifier. The slot-loaded bass vent on the back of the enclosure is claimed to minimize air turbulence at the mouth of the port. The subwoofer is magnetically shielded. The PSW303 is the standard recommended subwoofer for the RM6700 satellites, but the satellites and subwoofer are packaged separately, allowing consumers to choose the Polk powered subwoofer that best meets their needs. The RM6700 system will available in the U.S. and Canada in October 2002. For more information, visit www.polkaudio.com.
