Polk Audio Introduces New RTi150 Loudspeaker

26-Sep-02

Polk Audio announced the addition of the RTi150 tower loudspeaker to the top of the RTi Series. Like the rest of the RTi Series, the RTi150 features the latest generation of Polk's Dynamic Balance drivers and tweeters for improved sound quality. The RTi150 is a traditional floor-standing speaker, without a built-in powered subwoofer. ""We found that there was strong consumer demand for a step-up floor-standing speaker without a built-in powered subwoofer,"" said Polk Audio Founder and Chairman Matthew Polk. ""Many hobbyist consumers feel that a separate subwoofer is a necessity, so a subwoofer built-in to the main speaker isn't a benefit for them. They'd rather have a main speaker that emphasizes other performance attributes such as wide dynamic range and flatter response."" The RTi150 features a single 6-1/2-inch polymer/mineral composite midrange driver. It is housed in a sealed enclosure that is isolated from the woofer. The 1-inch tweeter is a silk/polymer composite. The midrange driver and tweeter are mounted on a raised bezel that is part of an anti-diffraction method. Three long-throw 6-1/2-inch woofers are employed for bass. The woofers are vented via Polk's patented Power Port technology, claimed to reduce turbulence at the mouth of the port. The RTi150 is magnetically. It features dual-input (bi-amp/bi-wire), gold-plated five-way binding posts. The new RTi150 Series is available in authorized U.S. and Canadian dealers from September 2002.
