Faroudja Introduces DVI-Equipped Native Rate Series Digital Video Processor

9-Oct-02

Faroudja, a division of Genesis Microchip, Inc. (NASDAQ: GNSS), has introduced the Native Rate Series-DVI Digital Video Processor/Scaler at CEDIA EXPO 2002. The NRS-DVI is an upgraded version of Faroudja's classic Native Rate Series processor. It has been equipped with Digital Video Interface (DVI) inputs and outputs for pass-through processing, so that displays offering this type of connection can benefit from a pure digital signal from the source to the display. The processor has also been reduced in height from two rack units to one. The enhancements have been added to the NRS-DVI at no increase in price over its predecessor. Utilizing Faroudja's patented technologies for deinterlacing, scaling, and image processing, the NRS-DVI inputs standard video sources and upconverts them to optimize signal output for the display resolution being used. Each NRS-DVI is adjusted by Faroudja to deliver the optimal image for each type of display. Scan rates can be optimized for the following displays: 480p big screens, 852 x 480 plasmas, 540p, 800 x 600 digital projectors, 16:9 HD displays, 1024 x 768 digital projectors, 1366 x 768 plasmas, ALIS plasmas, and D-ILAÆ projectors. As with other Native Rate Series processors, the NRS-DVI applies a Faroudja-patented optimizing process that includes setting 12 different fine-tune adjustments for Faroudja's TrueLifeô Enhancer--a two-dimensional, nonlinear luma and chroma video enhancer. Additional patented technology in the NRS-DVI includes adaptive comb filtering, cross-color suppression, 10-bit processing, and two-line time-base correction--all for color processing--as well as advanced 3:2 film logic with advanced edit detection to handle film motion processing. Directional Correlational Deinterlacing (DCDiô), also built-in, eliminates the jagged edges seen on moving angled lines in video. The processor also features built-in aspect ratio control, a test pattern generator, a DVD Animation Circuit, an IR control system teaching function, and HDTV transcoding from YPrPb to RGB signals. In addition to the DVI pass-through and outputs, the NRS-DVI's rear panel connections include component, S-video, and composite inputs, and HDTV/computer pass-through. There are RGB and YPrPb outputs, and the unit can be controlled with an included infrared remote or via the RS-232 serial port. The Native Rate Series-DVI Digital Processor/Scaler is available at suggested retail prices of $3,995 and $4,995. For more information, visit www.faroudja.com.
