Faroudja Introduces DVP2000 Digital Video Processor

9-Oct-02

Faroudja, a division of Genesis Microchip, Inc. (NASDAQ: GNSS), has introduced the DVP2000 Digital Video Processor at CEDIA EXPO 2002. The DVP2000 is an upgraded version of Faroudja's NRS-DCS Digital Cinema Source, which was the first product to combine a full-featured Faroudja Native Rate Series Processor with an internal high-performance DVD transport, Digital Video Interface (DVI) outputs, and a high-end digital audio stage. Adding to these capabilities, the DVP2000 has been enhanced with the ability to scan at any available rate, and is equipped with DVI cross-conversion, in addition to pass-through processing. The DVI capability enables displays offering this type of connection to benefit from a digital signal from the source to the display. Like its predecessor, the DVP2000 utilizes its internal DVD drive to send a digital video stream straight to the video processing stage where Faroudja's patented technologies for deinterlacing, scaling, and image processing are applied. The signal is optimized for the display resolution being used. Products optimized for plasma, DLPô, D-ILAÆ, and LCD displays are available. The DVP2000 also includes a full set of analog inputs, and two sets of analog RGB and YPrPb outputs. As do other Native Rate Series Processors, the DVP2000 applies a Faroudja-patented optimizing process that includes setting 12 different fine-tune adjustments for the TrueLifeô Enhancer--a two-dimensional, nonlinear luma and chroma video enhancer for superb detail and color. Additional patented technology includes adaptive comb filtering, cross-color suppression, and two-line time-base correction, all for color processing; advanced 3:2 film logic with advanced edit detection to handle film motion processing; and Directional Correlational Deinterlacing (DCDiô), which eliminates the jagged edges seen on moving angled lines in video. The feature list continues with internal aspect ratio control, a test pattern generator, a DVD Animation Circuit, an IR control system teaching function, and HDTV transcoding from YPrPb to RGB signals. The display resolution and type of display being used are specified when a DVP2000 is ordered, so it can be optimized for that display. The DVP2000 also includes a proprietary audio stage with AES/EBU outputs. Special low jitter crystal oscillators are used. Data is buffered, re-clocked, and corrected for timing errors. The DVP2000 will be available from Faroudja dealers at a suggested price of $15,000. For more information, visit www.faroudja.com.
