Yamaha Launches New DVD+RW Recorder

1-Nov-02

Yamaha Electronics Corporation introduced a new DVD+RW recorder, the DRX-1. The DRX-1 offers two-way compatibility between DVD-Video discs and players with DVD+RW discs and recorders, and is equipped with all the features of a DVD player and a VCR. DRX-1 recorded discs can be played back on any DVD-Video player. Furthermore, the DRX-1 is compatible with discs recorded on other machines, including DVD, CD, CD-R/RW and SVCD (not compatible with DVD-RAM). The DRX-1 makes it possible to rerecord on a DVD+RW disc without the need to finalize or de-finalize that disc in advance. (DVD+R discs must be finalized to play on other DVD players.) The DRX-1 features a host of advanced editing and indexing functions. Four recording modes are provided, including High Quality, with a recording length of one hour, and Standard Play+, which delivers DVD-Video quality with a 2-1/2-hour recording length. Extended Play and Extended Play+ offer 4-hour and 6-hour lengths, respectively, with image quality said to be significantly superior to video tape. An ""Index Picture"" screen display shows the source, length, date, time, and recording mode of each scene on a given disc, which is helpful for editing, rerecording, or scanning the contents of that disc. Each title can be selected for play or erasure, can be named, given a numerical (0-99) chapter marker, or divided into two segments at any point. The DRX-1 is also compatible with VCR Plus+. The DRX-1 is also a progressive scan DVD player. It features a 3:2 pulldown processing with Faroudja's DCDi. It is also equipped with an IEEE 1394 DV input. The DRX-1 carries a suggested MSRP of $1,299. For more information about Yamaha Electronics Corporation, visit www.yamaha.com/yec.
