Krell Industries, Inc., manufacturer of high-performance audio and video equipment, has announced that the Home Theater Standard 7.1 preamp/processor has been updated to include an eight-channel digital parametric room equalizer. Dan D'Agostino, Chief Engineer and CEO of Krell Industries, has designed the equalizer to operate exclusively in the digital domain, thus avoiding the sonic degradations normally associated with equalizers. First introduced earlier this year in both the Home Theater Standard 7.1 and the Showcase processors, this unique feature adds to the already powerful audio performance and user-friendliness of the processor. Krell engineering now delivers a sonic tool that affords the user the opportunity to compensate for acoustic anomalies present in a listening environment, between different types of speakers, on a source, or to set preferences on the basis of personal taste. For example, a user may choose to have different settings for different types of music, for movies, or even different listening positions. There are four independent memories in the digital room equalizer set-up. For each memory setting, the user has the ability to precisely set the filter type (notch, peaking, high-pass, low-pass, high/low shelf), frequency, and range for each of up to eight channels. No other preamp/processor offers the user this level of precision and control over the acoustic environment without compromising the integrity of the audio reproduction. For customers who are the original owners of the Home Theater Standard 7.1 (purchased through an authorized retailer), Krell Industries will provide the upgrade at no charge.
