Marantz Announces New 50-Inch PD5020D Plasma Monitor

10-Dec-02

Marantz America announced the introduction of its Model PD5020D 50-inch widescreen plasma monitor, featuring a host of technological advancements and upgrades that significantly improve image quality compared to its predecessor, the Marantz PD5010D. With its higher brightness and contrast along with sharper, clearer high-resolution images, the PD5020D sets a new performance standard in 50-inch plasma displays--at a lower suggested retail price ($15,999) than the company's previous model. The improved Marantz PD5020D delivers a widescreen (16:9) picture for home theatre installations. At the heart of its state-of-the art performance is a newly designed 1365 x 768 plasma display panel that displays high-resolution images with remarkable sharpness and clarity. The PD5020D also offers higher 320 cd/m2 brightness and a 1,200:1 contrast ratio, for better color accuracy and deeper, truer blacks. Kevin Zarow, Marantz Director of Marketing pointed out, ""The new PD5020D plasma monitor embodies our ongoing commitment to providing consumers with the best video display products available, that take advantage of the best today's home entertainment technologies have to offer. Thanks to the latest refinements in plasma manufacturing and engineering, the PD5020D offers consumers noticeably better image quality than previously available in a 50-inch model, along with greater value than ever before."" Like all Marantz plasma display monitors, the PD5020D is compatible with virtually every digital and analog video display device, and can operate in either native progressive scan mode or upconvert video sources, depending on the signal source. The PD5020D is DTV-compatible and can display a native 720p progressive scan image from a DVD-Video player, HDTV set-top box, or computer; 1080i HDTV images from an HDTV set-top box or other HDTV sources; or an upconverted image from any NTSC source. The PD5020D can also display images from a computer up to UXGA resolution, and automatically scales or upconverts video sources as necessary. The Marantz PD5020D includes a host of advanced image enhancement technologies. Its new plasma panel features a series of red, green and blue filters embedded within the front glass that reduce undesirable light emissions from the individual pixels, for a more realistic color balance. The monitor's improved video processing circuitry yields smoother, more realistic image quality with a dramatic reduction of motion artifacts, and the PD5020D's ""intelligent"" scan conversion utilizes advanced pixel mapping technology that displays scaled images with exceptional clarity and image stability. An automatic/manual color temperature function enables the user to adjust the monitor to a selection of color temperatures including the NTSC standard 6500 K, or choose a customized setting. In addition, the PD5020D is more energy-efficient, with power consumption of 485 watts compared to 595 watts for the previous model. The PD5020D includes HD component video, component video, S-video, and composite video connections, as well as digital inputs and analog RGB inputs. The PD5020D is compatible with NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats. For maximum viewing flexibility, the Marantz PD5020D provides a choice of aspect ratio modes that are optimized for viewing 4:3 and 16:9 program material with the highest possible image quality. Thanks to its high brightness and wide 160-degree viewing angle, the PD5020D delivers exceptional image quality to viewers directly in front of as well as off to the sides of the screen, even in daytime and in brightly lit rooms. All key functions as well as video and audio adjustments are easily accessible via the PD5020D's on-screen menu and supplied remote control. Although the PD5020D boasts a large 50-inch screen, its slim-profile chassis measures just over four inches deep, facilitating wall mounting as well as installation on a stand or from a ceiling (using optional available mounting brackets or stands). Because it can be located without taking up any floor space, the PD5020D is the ideal big-screen home theatre display for custom and designer installations, and its elegant dark silver metallic chassis complements every decor and living environment. The Marantz PD5020D carries a suggested retail price of $15,999. For more information, visit www.marantz.com.
