Shakira And Reebok Partner To Help Children In Columbia

Grammy-award winning artist Shakira and her foundation Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet) and The Reebok Human Rights Program announced today that they will partner together in a year-long project to distribute l0,000 pairs of Reebok shoes to Colombiaís neediest children, beginning tomorrow in Shakiraís hometown of Barranquilla.  December 19, 2002, in the spirit of the holiday season, Shakira, who is a Reebok endorsee, and Reebok will be hosting an event at Escuela San Vicente de Paul, one of the neediest schools in Barranquilla. Marking the beginning of the partnership between Pies Descalzos and the Reebok Human Rights Program partnership, children from Escuela San Vicente de Paul will be the first to receive a pair of the Reebok/Pies Descalzos shoes. The balance of the shoes will be distributed early next year. In Shakira's conflict-torn homeland of Colombia, 7.5 million children live in dire poverty. Many suffer from untreated diseases and others have been left orphaned by the hostilities. It is the plight of the children that motivated Shakira to create Pies Descalzos several years ago.  Pies Descalzos is dedicated to helping children rebuild their lives in Barranquilla and throughout Colombia. A central need of these children is access to quality healthcare and education.
