Canton Subwoofers Extend The Bottom Line

Canton has introduced its updated AS (Active Subwoofer) line of powered subwoofers, consisting of six active models designed to integrate seamlessly with any home theatre or satellite/subwoofer system. The entire line features Canton's exclusive SC (Subwoofer Control) technology, variable crossover and level control, and switchable phase adjustment. The AS Subwoofers range from the compact AS 15 SC with a 9-1/2 x 14-1/4 x 16-7/8-inch band-pass enclosure, 8-inch woofer, and 100-watt amplifier, to the much larger AS 50 SC with its 14-1/4 x 22 x 18-1/8-inch bass reflex enclosure, 12-inch woofer, and 350-watt amplifier. All the enclosures are made of 1-inch-thick MDF for maximum suppression of cabinet vibrations. They are available in several finishes including bicolor beech wood and silver, or traditional matte black; four of the models are also available in matte silver. All of Canton's AS subwoofers incorporate the company's exclusive SC Technology, which redefines the relationship between the size of a subwoofer's housing and its transmission range. This active electronic filter is individually designed for each model, based on complex computer-aided analysis and design, and integrated into the unit's amplifier between the preliminary and output stages. This circuit provides compensation for the acoustic characteristics of the housing and driver, adjusting the amplifier's response curve for optimum linearity. This both blocks unwanted infrasonic signals, which can cause excessive driver excursions, and improves the speaker's output response across the frequency range. Because of the increase in the speaker's efficiency and stability, and the subsequent decrease of harmonic distortion, the subwoofer reproduces bass more precisely, and is capable of carrying a heavier load with more clarity.The Canton AS Subwoofers will be available in January 2003 (AS 15 in February) with suggested retail prices ranging from $299 to $999.For more information about this and other Canton products, visit www.cantonusa.com.
