Definitive Technology's CES 2003 new product introduction is its most significant ever, with groundbreaking new speakers across almost all categories and price ranges. Headlining the introduction are the BP7000SC and BP7001SC, a new series of flagship bipolar towers with built-in SuperCubeÆ Technology powered subwoofers. These new speakers continue the tradition of the highly acclaimed BP3000TL and BP2000TL with dramatically improved performance, elegant refinements to Definitive's signature styling, and an ergonomically appealing reduction in overall size. Each top-of-the-line BP7000SC combines a new 14-inch SuperCube Technology subwoofer driven by an 1,800-watt Class D amplifier, two pressure-driven 14-inch infrasonic radiators, and bipolar dual D'Appolito front- and rear-mounted driver arrays, each consisting of two cast basket 6.5-inch Definitive bass/midrange drivers surrounding a 1-inch Definitive annealed pure aluminum dome tweeter. Newly designed Linkwitz-Riley crossover networks are also featured. The low-frequency performance sets new standards for loudspeakers priced under $50,000 a pair, with extension below 11 Hz, extremely low distortion, and fantastic transient response. Quite literally, a pair of BP7000SCs has the bass impact and output level capability of seven SuperCube I subwoofers. This speaker sets a new reference standard for ultra-dynamic, high-accuracy loudspeakers and achieves equally superb performance with both music and home theatre program material. They will reproduce a silky smooth, incredibly detailed, wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling sonic image with extraordinary depth at lifelike volume levels (and beyond), with a sense of ease that is truly remarkable. The elegant styling features beautiful sculptural refinements to Definitive's signature look, with a choice of piano gloss black or piano gloss cherry finish. Dimensions are 8.9 x 52.5 x 16.6 (WHD inches). Frequency response is 11 Hz to 30 kHz. Recommended amplifier power is 20-1000 watts per channel. The price is $2,499 each.Considering its smaller size and lower price, the new BP7001SC is in some ways even more impressive than the BP7000SC. It combines a similar bipolar array to that used in the BP7000SC with what is basically a SuperCube I (10-inch SuperCube Technology sub driver, two 10-inch infrasonic radiators, and a 1,500-watt Class D amp) in each stylishly sleek cabinet. The sonic performance of the BP7001SC is actually dramatically superior to the former flagship system, the BP3000TL, which makes it a tremendous value as well as an outstanding performer. It also features the new signature styling as well as a choice of piano gloss black or piano gloss golden cherry finish. Dimensions are 8.4 x 48 x 15 (WHD inches). Frequency response is 3 Hz to 30 kHz. Recommended amplifier power is 20-600 watts per channel. The price is $1,749 each.New Mythosô On-Wall & Tower SystemsMythos is a whole new concept in high-performance, super-elegant lifestyle loudspeakers, which begins by answering the need for upscale on-wall loudspeakers to go with plasma TVs, and then proceeds from there to provide a cutting-edge styling statement tower loudspeaker, which sounds even better than it looks and literally redefines the concept of floor-standing loudspeakers. Mythos One is a sleek and sexy 46-inch-tall tower with striking contemporary styling which combines a beautiful satin finished, extruded aluminum cabinet (available in silver or black) with a tempered glass base. Special care has been taken to assure total rigidity of the cabinet and PolyStoneô baffle, which, along with the utilization of proprietary damping guarantees a totally inert and non-resonant structure. Inside the cabinet is a D'Appolito array of two 5.25-inch cast basket bass/midrange Definitive drivers surrounding a 1-inch pure aluminum dome Definitive tweeter. There are also four pressure-driven 5.25-inch planar low-frequency radiators. A newly designed Linkwitz-Riley crossover network perfectly blends the drivers into a sonically seamless whole. The Mythos One's styling is designed to perfectly complement flat-panel TVs (whether stand, tabletop, or wall-mounted) as well as stand- or cabinet-mounted CRT TVs (such as Sony WEGAs), rear-projection TVs, as well as front-projection TVs. Of course they also look terrific as standalone audio-only speakers. Although the Mythos One is a full-range system, they are also designed to be combined with a Definitive powered subwoofer such as Definitive's new SuperCubes, which will be available in a matching silver finish. Mythos One Towers can be combined with Mythos Three Center Channels, along with a Definitive sub and a choice of Definitive rear surrounds to complete a state-of-the-art home theatre system. Dimensions are 6 x 46.5 x 6 (WHD inches). Frequency response is 20 Hz to 30 kHz. Recommended amplifier power is 20-250 watts/channel. Projected price is $799 each.Mythos Two is an equally sleek and sexy left and right main speaker which is designed to be either wall-, cabinet-, or tabletop-mounted. Mythos Two's extremely shallow depth makes it a perfect match for any flat-panel plasma or LCD TV. Its construction is very similar to Mythos One, with an extruded aluminum cabinet joined to a PolyStone baffle to create a stiff and totally inert monocoque structure. The driver complement is two 4.5-inch cast basket bass/midrange drivers in a D'Appolito array configuration, with a 1-inch pure aluminum dome tweeter. Below the array are two 4.5-inch pressure-driven low-frequency radiators. Mythos Two is designed to perfectly blend with the SuperCube subs and can be used with or without a Mythos Three Center Channel in home theatre systems of the highest quality. A Mythos Two-based system will deliver superb reproduction of both music and movies with spacious lifelike imaging, remarkable clarity, and all the you-are-there excitement that have earned Definitive Technology loudspeakers the experts' highest raves. Dimensions are 4.6 x 24.5 x 3.9 (WHD inches). Frequency response is 45 Hz to 30 kHz. Recommended amplifier power is 10-200 watts/channel. Projected price is $499 each.Mythos Three is designed as a high-definition center channel to match either Mythos One or Mythos Two. Dimensions and specifications are the same as Mythos Two, however, the driver geometry has been changed in order to optimize it for center channel use. In addition, whereas the bottom of the Mythos Two is flat, to allow for tabletop mounting, both the left and right sides of Mythos Three have a distinctive angled cut. Projected price is $499 each.New ProCinemaÆ 60 SystemThe ProCinema 60 System builds on the technology, performance, and styling of our critically acclaimed ProCinema Systems to bring Definitive's signature sound quality and lifestyle convenience to an incredibly affordable new entry-level price point.
