Zenith Unveils New Direct-View Integrated HDTVs

13-Jan-03

Building on its leadership position in digital high-definition television (HDTV), Zenith Electronics Corporation introduced three attractively priced direct-view integrated HDTVs, including two widescreen models, and a pair of new direct-view HDTV monitors at the 2003 Consumer Electronics Show. The new direct-view HDTVs and monitors provide consumers with a wide range of affordable choices at a time of growing HDTV market momentum. The new integrated HDTVs include a 34-inch widescreen integrated HDTV (model C34W37), a 32-inch integrated HDTV (model C32V37), and a 30-inch widescreen integrated HDTV (model C30W37). All feature Zenith's latest-generation VSB (vestigial sideband) chipset, which delivers improved reception of over-the-air DTV broadcasts, including digital closed-caption data, and a QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) digital cable tuner for unscrambled HDTV programs. The sets' ATSC tuner allows viewers to enjoy full HDTV broadcasts without an external set-top box, while a built-in NTSC tuner delivers high-quality standard-definition analog program reception. Other features include a flat CRT, which provides brighter, more vibrant images free of glare and screen distortions, as well as inverse 3:2 pull-down. Additional features include dual-tuner Picture-In-Picture (PIP), split-screen, zoom, and Picture-Outside-Picture (POP) capabilities; a Digital Visual Interface with High-bandwith Digital Content Protection (DVI+HDCP), and an illuminated universal remote control. Model C34W37 is expected to be available in the second quarter, while models C32V37 and C30W37 are planned for later in the year. Zenith's new direct-view HDTV monitors are the 32-inch C32V36 and 27-inch C27V36. Both feature flat CRTs, inverse 3:2 pull-down, Faroudja DCDiô processing, PIP and POP capabilities, SRSÆ TruSurroundô, and an illuminated universal remote control. The C32V36 also is equipped with a more extensive connection package, including DVI+HDCP. The C32V36 and C27V36 are expected to be available in the second quarter. Rounding out Zenith's direct-view line are three 36-inch models available now: the C36V23 integrated HDTV at a suggested price of $1,999, and two HDTV monitors, the C36V28 and C36V22, with suggested prices of $1,999 and $1,799, respectively. All three feature flat CRTs. For more information about Zenith Electronics Corporation, visit www.zenith.com.
