13-Jan-03

Recognizing its leadership in digital display technologies and high-definition television (HDTV), Zenith Electronics Corporation has been honored with six CES Innovations 2003 awards for products demonstrating excellence in design and engineering at the 2003 Consumer Electronics Show. The award-winning products are: two plasma displays, a 42-inch model (P42W24) and a 37-inch model (P37W24); two direct-view integrated HDTVs, a 32-inch 4:3 model (C32V37) and a 30-inch 16:9 widescreen model (C30W37); the HD-SAT520 HDTV receiver set-top box; and the XBS245 DolbyÆ Digital surround sound system. Entries in the prestigious Innovations 2003 awards program, which is endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America, are judged by a panel of prominent industry experts. The winning Zenith brand products were designed with Zenith's parent company, LG Electronics Inc. The P42W24 plasma display, available now, delivers a high-quality progressive scan picture on a 42-inch widescreen display. Picture quality is further refined by an extraordinary contrast ratio of 1,000:1 and an extremely high brightness rating of 1,000 cd/m2. The P37W24 plasma display, contemplated for late 2003 introduction, delivers a high-quality 852 x 480 resolution picture, and includes such high-performance features as Intelligent Image Scalingô, built-in aspect ratio correction, and RS-232C controls. The 32-inch C32V37 4:3 and 30-inch C30W37 16:9 widescreen integrated HDTVs are direct-view sets that feature Zenith's latest-generation VSB (vestigial sideband) chipset to receive terrestrial HDTV broadcasts including digital closed captions and a QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) tuner to receive unscrambled HDTV programming via cable--without the need for a separate set-top box. Both sets employ a flat CRT for brighter, more vibrant images free of glare and screen distortions, as well as inverse 3:2 pull-down. The HD-SAT520 DirecTVÆ High-Definition Receiver/Advanced HDTV tuner incorporates Zenith's latest-generation VSB reception chip, bringing a new level of flexibility and performance to terrestrial and DirecTV HDTV reception. Aspect ratio correction switches between widescreen (16:9) and conventional (4:3) images, and provides various zoom modes, while Dolby Digital processing provides 5.1-channel surround sound. DirecTV's Advanced Program Guide delivers fast, seamless program integration between various signal sources. The HD-SAT520, available now, includes a DVI+HDCP connector. The feature-packed XBS245 Dolby Digital surround sound system is a versatile, compact home theatre system that incorporates a DVD/CD/VCR combination unit, five compact surround sound speakers, and a subwoofer outputting a total of 350 watts; an AM/FM tuner; a system remote control; and connection cables. The progressive scan DVD player handles basic DVD functions as well as MP3 files and DVD, VCD, CD, and CD-R/RW discs for Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro LogicÆ surround formats.
