Zenith Electronics Corporation's first rear-projection Digital Light Processingô (DLPô) HDTV--a 52-inch integrated HDTV tabletop model--was announced at the 2003 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The industry's first DLP rear-projection model with a built-in HDTV tuner for improved reception of over-the-air DTV broadcasts, Zenith's DLP52W37, boasts a big, wide 52-inch screen and 1280 x 720 resolution. It carries a full complement of advanced features, including dual-tuner Picture-In-Picture (PIP), split-screen, and Picture-Outside-Picture (POP) capabilities; Digital Visual Interface with High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (DVI+HDCP); and an extensive connection panel. This groundbreaking DLP HDTV is joined by two new widescreen CRT-based models, the 56-inch R56W36 HDTV monitor, and the 49-inch R49W36 HDTV monitor, as well as 60- and 52-inch rear-projection LCD HDTV monitors. The new product introductions at CES mean that Zenith provides consumers with digital HDTV solutions employing all of today's popular rear-projection technologies. The all-digital, all-widescreen (16:9) rear-projection HDTV line complements Zenith's broad line of plasma, LCD, and direct-view HDTV offerings, creating one of the industry's broadest assortments of consumer choices for enjoying HDTV.Ideal for home theatres and other home entertainment areas, the new R56W36 and R49W36 rear-projection monitors both incorporate NTSC tuners and feature excellent high-definition resolution, powered by 7-inch CRTs on high-brightness screens. Built-in scaling capabilities allow images to be presented in 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 conventional aspect ratios, while a wide 160-degree viewing angle maximizes viewability. Additional picture enhancements include user-selectable black level expansion and scan velocity modulation, an advanced 3-D Y/C comb filter that digitally controls and separates color (chroma) and picture (luminance) information, and PIP and POP capabilities. The DLP52W37 rear-projection DLP HDTV is expected to be available in the fourth quarter at a suggested price under $4,000. The R56W36 and R49W36 rear-projection HDTV monitors are expected to be available in the first quarter at suggested prices of $2,199 and $1,899, respectively.
