Proficient Audio Systems Introduces LCR Home Theatre Ceiling Speakers

In many cases, room layout isn't optimized for a 5.1 surround system. For built-in home theatre systems, a TV in a corner and entertainment cabinets has continued to cause big problems for installation dealers. But now, according to Keith Marshall, Vice President of Proficient Audio Systems, the new Proficient LCR ceiling speakers provides the solution that has not been found when using traditional ceiling speakers. ""A new house can be a great place to install a home theatre,"" says Marshall, ""but when the video screen is in the corner of the room, it causes problems for the LCR setup because the left, center, and right speakers really need to fire from the same plane. With video in a corner, the adjoining walls take away the flat surface needed when trying to couple audio with video."" When using ordinary ceiling speakers, imaging and soundstaging in the soundfield disappears. Proficient's LCR Series ceiling speakers' revolutionary design helps to restore that imaging that gets lost with the standard down-firing ceiling speakers. According to Marshall, ""We accomplish this because our woofer and tweeter bridge are set at a 15-degree angle. Plus, you get another 30 degrees with the pivoting tweeter. With this, the critical high and midrange frequencies are then pointed toward the listener, not the floor. Proficient's LCR Series ceiling speakers can also be used for rear and side surrounds in 5.1 or 7.1 systems.The LCR C660 is a two-way system featuring a 6.5-inch injection-molded, graphite woofer and 1-inch pivoting aluminum dome tweeter. A 125-watt power handling system, it has a 1.5-inch voice coil, 17-ounce magnet structure, and an air core inductor on the crossover network that permits the system to take more power, and prevent the tweeters from overloading. The manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) for the LCR C660 is $250 each, or $1,250 for five of them in a 5.1 system.The LCR C650 is a 100-watt system with 6.5-inch polypropylene woofer and 1-inch pivoting silk dome tweeter. The MSRP on the LCR C660 is $190 each or $950 for a 5.1 system.
