Dynaudio Announces New Maple And Cherry Natural Veneer Finishes For The Audience Series

27-Feb-03

Dynaudio, the specialty loudspeaker manufacturer from Denmark, has introduced the Audience range in new optional Maple or Cherry natural veneer finishes. The Audience series, available also in an optional Silver laminate as well as the new Maple or Cherry natural wood veneered variants--comprise a complete range of loudspeaker models for high-performance stereo or home theatre applications, beginning with the compact Audience 42 and Audience 52--both bookshelf models--to the Audience 62, Audience 72, and Audience 82 floor-standing towers. Home theatre system applications are specifically addressed with the Audience 122C Center (also available in a slim, matching floor-standing Audience 122 version), the compact Audience 42C Center, and the shallow-depth, front-ported Audience 42W wall-mount main/surround speaker. The series includes the 10-inch powered Audience SUB 20A and the 12-inch powered Audience SUB 30A to anchor any stereo or home theatre systems comprised of Dynaudio loudspeakers. Each speaker in the Audience series has been developed to Dynaudio's exacting specifications, featuring state-of-the-art driver technology for which Dynaudio is renowned. The drivers incorporated into the Audience series and not standard, off-the-shelf drivers. Rather, they are proprietary designs developed specifically for the models into which they are being utilized. Parameters are adjusted for not only the specific enclosure, but also for optimum synergy between all drivers to be included in each design. Midrange/woofer drivers feature large, 75mm diameter lightweight aluminum voice coils for maximum efficiency, greater control of the diaphragm, and maximum power handling and dynamics with minimum cone breakup. The one-piece MSP (magnesium silicate polymer)-molded woofer diaphragm cones offer significant decreases in inter-modular and group delay distortions. The Audience line's proprietary, design-specific 28mm soft dome tweeters utilize a special magnetic fluid to provide exceptional power handling and damping, offering clear, detailed sound reproduction across the entire frequency range. The 4mm die-cast aluminum front plates offer maximum stiffness while also acting like a heat sink, while vented pole pieces and damped rear chambers deliver transient response. Systems are subject to 86 quality control tests, and each speaker is covered by Dynaudio's five-year limited warranty. Floor-standing models feature taller, slim-line cabinets, front-ported for ease of positioning. All cabinets are bitumen-damped and feature extensive cross-bracing. A bass reflex port, fitted with trumpet-shaped openings for enhanced airflow and reduced turbulence at high power, supports low-frequency performance. To adjust the bass output, the port tube can be fitted with the foam plug supplied with each speaker, an important consideration if one of the compact, rear-ported models is to be positioned on a bookshelf or against a back wall, where the bass response will be boosted. The highest-caliber components are used in the Audience series crossovers, which have been designed to afford the type of power handling normally expected from more expensive systems. Each component in the filter is glued and every inductor is cable-tied to the circuit board. For efficient production and the shortest possible current path, the filter is attached to an insulated speaker terminal supported with gold-plated sockets. Dynaudio also paid particular attention to the look of the speakers, maintaining cabinet designs that incorporate rounded front baffle corners with a contemporary front grille. All floor-standing models are fitted with a provision to store the grilles on the back of the speaker cabinet, should one choose to listen without the grilles in place. Consumers can choose among the three standard price laminate finishes: Rosewood, Black Ash, and Cherry, in addition to the upgraded Silver laminate and new Maple or Cherry natural wood veneers. A White laminate finish (with a white baffle and grille) is also offered as an option on the Audience 42, 42W, 42C, and 52 models. All optional premium finishes are available at a modest up-charge. In the new natural-veneered Audience models, the speaker baffle and grille are finished in complementary dark charcoal grey hues, while the driver front plates and mounting rings are finished in a silver/aluminum color. The high-quality natural Maple or Cherry finish yields a furniture-grade loudspeaker appearance typically reserved for much more costly products. For more information, visit www.dynaudio.com.
