7-Mar-03

Sony Electronics introduced its first flat-panel LCD television for the U.S. market. The 30-inch widescreen, high-resolution TV incorporates the new WEGA Engineô digital processing system and a modern design. The new KLV-30XBR900 model features 1280 x 768 resolution and a unique LCD panel driver. The new model is a two-piece LCD panel and media receiver unit ensemble that incorporates a stylish floating panel display. ""Our new XBR LCD model with the innovative WEGA Engine system clearly demonstrates that all flat-panel TVs are not created equal,"" said Tim Baxter, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Sony Electronics' Visual Network Products Division. Setting The Standard In LCD Display The new LCD TV features Sony's proprietary WEGA Engine system, which delivers superb picture quality from any video source by minimizing the number of digital-to-analog conversion processes and maximizing picture performance. This full digital processing engine includes unique technologies, including: - The first step in the digital processing system, Direct Digital circuitry, which increases signal-to-noise ratio when converting the signal from analog to digital - Digital Reality Creationô (DRCô) MultiFunction circuitry, which gives viewers control over the level of DRC circuitry depending on the quality of the input signal - MIDô-X (Multi-Image Driver), maintains the integrity of a converted signal by minimizing image loss in the scaling process, providing unique Flexible Twin Viewô picture-and-picture features. Other unique digital processing technologies incorporated are the LCD panel driver and CineMotionô reverse 3:2 pull-down circuitry. The LCD panel driver improves fast-action, motion picture quality. The new set boasts a viewing angle of 170 degrees. Convenience Features The advanced picture technologies of the KLV-30XBR900 are complemented by a stylish design. The ultra-slim, floating panel display is connected via a proprietary A/V cable to the supplied Media Receiver Unit (MRU), a set-top box component that easily connects to any video and audio source. The MRU houses the WEGA Engine system and all necessary inputs, as well as a Memory StickÆ media slot for viewing JPEG images converted to high-definition quality. The MRU also incorporates a Digital Visual Interface (DVI) connection that enables copy-protected, high-definition video content to be delivered to the unit from a DVI/HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)-compatible set-top box, such as Sony's new SAT-HD200 HD/DirecTVÆ receiver. In addition to the DVI connection, the new LCD WEGAô television includes six different inputs. The new model offers versatile options for connecting to a variety of audio and video components. It has three S-video inputs, as well as two HD component video inputs, and a PC monitor connection. Convenience features include the Flexible Twin Viewô feature, which allows simultaneous viewing of two programs from two different sources side by side, and a Favorite Channel function for previewing and selecting from eight channels. Audio features include built-in speakers, totaling 20 watts audio power, with SRSÆ TruSurroundÆ. The KLV-30XBR900 30-inch LCD WEGA television will be available in February for about $6,000.
