18-Mar-03

Manufacturer-to-dealer sales of video products continue the impressive growth demonstrated last year, boasting increases in unit sales not only for digital video products, but also for other products with digital features, such as TV/DVD combinations, according to figures released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). During the month of January, factory-to-dealer sales of analog TV/DVD combinations totaled 40,435 units--an increase of some 193 percent compared to the same period in 2002. Unit sales of standalone DVD players increased by 47 percent over last year to total 797,024 for the month. Factory-to-dealer sales of analog TV/DVD combinations continued the growth during February, with unit sales up nearly 382 percent over 2002 figures to 83,511 units. Sales of standalone DVD players held steady with 743,488 units for the month, putting year-to-date sales of DVD players up more than 20 percent over last year, with some 1.5 million units already shipped to dealers. Data cited in this release is available for purchase through CEA's Market Activity Reports and Analysis (MARA) program. With more than 500 reports published annually, the MARA program is recognized as the ""authoritative source"" for data on the consumer electronics industry.
