Sharp Introduces Expanded DVD Line At 2003 CES

Sharp Electronics Corporation announced the addition of two new DVD players to its line--a recordable DVD (model DV-RW2U), as well as a progressive scan DVD/CD player (model DV-SL20U).""As DVD players continue to grow in popularity, Sharp is pleased to offer two new high-end DVD products for 2003, including our first recordable DVD product,"" said Robert Pleyer, Senior Marketing Manager, Video Products, Sharp Electronics. ""Since DVD player shipments grew more than 60 percent in 2002 alone, we believe that DVD recorder sales will also surge.""Recordable DVD Player (DV-RW2U)The DV-RW2U is an integrated product that enables one-touch video recordings onto a re-writeable disc for storage and long-term video archiving in a digital format. The DV-RW2U also records up to 4.7 GB of data on re-writeable discs. Unlike VHS tapes, the DV-RW2U has one-touch rewind to return to the main menu for easy searching and replay at any time. Using a re-writeable disc that re-records up to 1,000 times, consumers can record on DVD-R, and play back CD-RW, CD-R, and audio CDs. The DV-RW2U's enhanced Disc Navigation System with thumbnail display provides the user with a title menu for instant scene choice from the table of contents. The DV-RW2U's user-friendly technology allows consumers to record up to eight programs with the touch of a button, using timer recordings. The ""Just Recording"" feature checks the disc capacity each time a user inserts a DVD-RW disc. Not only does it locate how much additional space is left on the DVD, but it will never record over a disc without alerting the user first. The DV-RW2U can record up to two hours of video in standard mode (SP) and up to six hours in manual mode (MN). When recording a DVD, the DV-RW2U provides helpful features. The title option allows editing and renaming of different segments of the DVD as it is being recorded.
