Sharp Introduces New Widescreen, High-Definition AQUOS Liquid Crystal Televisions

18-Mar-03

Sharp Electronics Corporation announced that it has expanded its flat-screen AQUOSô Liquid Crystal Television line to include a new 37-inch high-definition widescreen model (LC-37HV4U) and an upgraded 30-inch high-definition widescreen model (LC-30HV4U). The 37-inch high-definition AQUOS Liquid Crystal Television features a new, state-of-the-art ASV (Advanced Super View) panel with 1366 x 768 resolution, outfitted with Sharp's proprietary QS (Quick Shoot) technology, which increases the response time, effectively reducing the visual lag inherent in fast-motion scenes. In addition, both models include an upgraded Audio Video Computer system (AVC system), which houses the component, S-video, and computer (PC) inputs, and reduces the cable clutter around the panel itself. The new AVC system is also equipped with a DVI-D input capable of High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), which ensures compatibility with next-generation, high-definition set-top boxes. In addition, the AVC system includes Sharp's second-generation Computer and Video Integrated Composer (CV-IC II) System which provides proprietary video scaler circuitry that upconverts standard-definition signals to the native resolution of the televisions. ""Sharp is committed to meeting the demands of today's design-conscious customers for high-performance and high-style televisions, with the industry's broadest line of AQUOS Liquid Crystal Television models,"" said Tony Favia, Senior Product Manager, Liquid Crystal Television, Sharp Electronics Corporation. ""The addition of Sharp's Quick Shoot technology further exemplifies Sharp's desire to offer the highest-quality products and retain our leadership position as the market leader in the liquid crystal television category. ""These large-screen AQUOS models offer many advantages over similar-sized plasma TVs, such as higher brightness, no burn-in, longer lamp life, wider viewing angles, slimmer and lighter form factor, lower power consumption, and a more elegant design."" Both the LC-37HV4U and LC-30HVU have WXGA resolution and offer high-definition display capability (720p). The LC-37HV4U has an enhanced WXGA resolution of 1366 x 768. The LC-30HV4U has a WXGA resolution of 1280 x768. As with previous AQUOS models, the LC-37HV4U and LC-30HV4U models use ASV panels with Sharp's proprietary Black TFT low-reflection coating. Both models offer 170-degree viewing angles, and a 16:9 aspect ratio for viewing widescreen movies in their original format. The 37-inch AQUOS model features an enhanced 800:1 contrast ratio, and the 30-inch AQUOS model features a 500:1 contrast ratio. Two detachable speakers frame the screen on either side of the LC-37HV4U and LC-30HV4U. They also feature a table stand. With the included stand or optional mounting brackets, the widescreen AQUOS televisions can be hung on a wall, placed on a bookshelf, or almost anywhere in the home. All products in the AQUOS line offer a long-life backlight (60,000 hours), multiple video signal inputs (component, S-video, and composite), built-in cable TV tuner, remote control, V-Chip, and high brightness. The LC-37HV4U is available in February at a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $7,499.95. The LC-30HV4U is available at an MSRP of $4,499.95.
