FOCUS Enhancements Receives Initial Purchase Orders For Microsoft Xbox

29-May-03

FOCUS Enhancements (NASDAQ SC: FCSE), a global leader in video conversion technology, announced that it has received initial production purchase orders from Microsoft for the FS454 semiconductor chips to be used in the XboxĆ videogame system from Microsoft. FOCUS Enhancements expects to begin shipping the chips in the third quarter of 2003. The FS454 provides low-cost, broadcast-quality TV-Out technology for the game console by accepting many different video input rates and resolutions from the graphics section, and converting them into video that is sent to a high-definition television, analog TV set, or PC monitor. Brett Moyer, President and CEO of FOCUS Enhancements, stated, ""Receiving the Microsoft purchase orders is a major milestone for FOCUS Enhancements and provides a boost to our financial outlook for 2003. We currently expect product shipments will begin in the third quarter, and we anticipate additional orders to follow."" Tom Hamilton, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the FOCUS Enhancements Semiconductor Group, stated, ""We have worked very closely with Microsoft on the FS454. Beginning production for Xbox is a positive step in our relationship. This confirms that companies implementing video design for products like set-top-boxes, which require scan conversion from PC graphics to standard- or high-definition televisions, now recognize FOCUS Enhancements is a very competitive provider."" About The FS453/FS454 Chips The FS453/FS454 integrated circuits (ICs) provide conversion of digital PC graphics to virtually all standard- and high-definition television formats. These ICs accept resolutions ranging from 640 x 480 to 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), and can output virtually all NTSC, PAL, or HDTV formats. The FS453/FS454 provide glueless compatibility with most PC graphics controller chips (GCCs) and will deliver multiple display modes to PC monitors and TV screens. These ICs consume less power and generate less heat than similar-purposed chips, and they provide aggressive power control modes for use in notebook PCs. The FS454 provides the globally implemented Macrovision 7.1 DVD anti-copy protection technology in the encoder for all TV outputs, including protection for 480p output.
