Samsung Debuts New Over-The-Air Digital Set-Top Box With DVI And QAM

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. a leading innovator and provider of DTV products, introduced the SIR-T351, a new entry-level ATSC digital set-top box. The SIR-T351 features DVI-HDTV and QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) for $449 MSRP.DVI-HDTV compatibility with an HDCP interface provides an all-digital connection to the television. QAM tuning provides the user with more HDTV content options by allowing the SIR-T351 to accept a high-definition signal from a cable connection as well as an antenna. ""Samsung's award-winning set-top box line provides advanced DTV solutions that now match any consumer's budget level from entry to high-end,"" said Frank Romeo, Director of Samsung's Digital Set Top Box Group. ""The latest addition to the line is part of Samsung's overall plan to improve the flexibility of high-definition and increase its acceptance across the U.S."" Samsung's SIR-T351 employs what has been noted by industry experts as the most sensitive HDTV tuner available, and is able to output all native DTV resolutions (1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i) through a selectable output. The SIR-T351 offers universal compatibility with any DTV monitor currently on the market, whether it's CRT, plasma, LCD, D-ILAÆ, or DLPô. It has the capability to tune and decode all 18 approved ATSC DTV broadcast formats and DolbyÆ Digital DTV broadcasts (5.1 channels). The SIR-T351 also features favorite channel and closed-caption functions, an on-screen menu system, and a universal remote control.
