Fox To Broadcast All-Star Game In Dolby Digital 5.1

15-Jul-03

On Tuesday, July 15, Fox Sports will broadcast the 2003 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in DolbyÆ Digital 5.1 audio in six U.S. metropolitan areas. The network announced earlier this year that all Fox Widescreen DTV sports broadcasts will feature Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Viewers with Dolby Digital set-top boxes and home theatres in Charlotte, NC; Los Angeles; Mobile, AL; New Orleans; Oakland/San Francisco; and Washington, DC will be able to enjoy the DTV broadcast of the game in 5.1 surround sound. ""We believe that Dolby Digital 5.1 adds so much to the sports viewing experience. It really brings the fan into the game and adds to the excitement of the event,"" said Ed Goren, President, Fox Sports. ""At Fox, we are committed to bringing our viewers the best possible viewing experience, which includes broadcasting with Dolby Digital 5.1,"" he continued. ""Fox has been a leader in Dolby Digital 5.1 sports broadcasts, and we are excited to use MLB's All-Star Game to further showcase the intensification that Dolby Digital 5.1 adds to the television viewing experience,"" said Tom Daily, Marketing Director, Professional Audio, Dolby Laboratories. Fox's first sports broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio was its presentation of Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002. Earlier this year, Fox Sports also broadcast coverage of NASCAR's Daytona 500 in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. Dolby Laboratories staff will be on hand at Chicago's US Cellular Field to provide technical support for the live broadcast of the All-Star Game.
