CEA DTV Subdivision Now Houses All Major HDTV Networks

9-Sep-03

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced that all the major broadcast, cable and satellite HDTV networks--ABC, CBS, Discovery, ESPN and NBC--now live under the CEA digital television (DTV) Subdivision umbrella along with retail, satellite and cable leaders, such as Best Buy, Tweeter, Comcast Cable, Cox Communications and DIRECTV. CEA's DTV Subdivision was formed in 2001 to bring together key industries and individuals working to facilitate the U.S. transition from analog television to DTV. ""Seventy-six companies representing the broadcast, cable, retail, technology and manufacturing industries now have joined the DTV Subdivision,"" said Samsung Vice President of Marketing for Visual Display Products and incoming DTV Subdivision Chair, Jim Sanduski. ""The fact that CEA's DTV Subdivision now houses all the relevant HDTV industries speaks strongly about CEA's role as a DTV transition leader. We're looking forward to continuing our work together in order to realize the swift conclusion of the DTV transition and delivering what American consumers expect when it comes to DTV--high-definition television (HDTV)."" The DTV Subdivision also announced it will be sponsoring CEA's HDTV Update program this fall. ""Since the HDTV Update meetings are designed to bring together all parties involved in the DTV transition, it makes perfect sense to have the DTV Subdivision as the program's sponsor,"" said CEA Spokesman, Jim Barry, who facilitates the HDTV Update sessions across the country.
